Your solidarity has not gone unnoticed by the Resistance.
It all started when the official The Handmaid’s Tale Twitter asked for my address to send me something “straight from the Resistance.” As a massive fan of the show’s first season my interest was piqued, so I sent my information and began playing the waiting game. A couple weeks later, a box arrived at my doorstep from the folks at Hulu. Read on to find out what was inside.
The box was perfectly themed for The Handmaid’s Tale featuring the series’ social handles and the words “the fight starts within.”
An enclosed note cautioned season two of the show would ‘test us’ but the items included were meant to provide salvation: “A stone for your stress. A pillow for your profanities. A coloring book for your anxiety.”
The ‘stone’ is actually a stress ball complete with the text ‘I’m sorry, Aunt Lydia’ – words echoed by the handmaids throughout the first season.
Aunt Lydia took the spotlight once more on the included throw pillow. I enjoy that the marketing behind The Handmaid’s Tale this year seems to be “We have Ann Dowd.”
The adult coloring book included a set of themed colored pencils (Resistance Red, Gilead Green, and Blue Wives to name a few) and features drawings perfect for coloring meant to promote stress relief – something we’re all sure to need after watching season two.
The Handmaid’s Tale returns for its second season Wednesday, April 25, 2018 only on Hulu. The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.
