In what some are calling the worst kept casting secret in soaps, former The Bold and the Beautiful star Linsey Godfrey (ex-Caroline) is officially joining the cast of NBC’s Days of our Lives.
Soap Opera Digest reports Godfrey has been cast as Sarah Horton, the daughter of Maggie Horton and Neil Curtis. The character hasn’t been seen on screen since 1991 and doesn’t have much of a notable history. So in a way, this is like a brand new character for the actress to play, albeit a de-aged one.
The actress, who’s celebrating her birthday today, shared her excitement on Instagram, writing: What a lucky birthday girl I am! I’m so excited and honored to announce I’ve joined the amazing cast of @nbcdays!!
Linsey Godfrey originated the role of Bill Spencer’s (played by Don Diamont) niece Caroline, the namesake of his late-sister, the original Caroline Spencer, in the spring of 2012. Godfrey’s portrayal quickly earned her a fan following that grew following her involvement in some of the show’s biggest triangles over the years. Caroline’s first story involved her relationship with her same-sex mothers Karen and Danielle. Later story lines involved romances with Thomas (played by Pierson Fode) and Rick Forrester (played by Jacob Young), the latter spawning a rivalry with model Maya Avant (played by Karla Mosley).
Caroline and Rick’s fairy tale marriage would end in scandal after Caroline had an affair with Rick’s intermittent stepfather and rival Ridge (played by Thorsten Kaye). Their relationship would also become scandalous when, after their relationship became strained due to disagreements over having a family, Caroline would become pregnant after a drunken one-night stand with Thomas. Though Ridge and Caroline married and attempted to raise the child on their own, the truth came out and the couple divorced.
Godfrey earned her first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2015. She remained on contract with B&B until December 2016.
Having watched and loved her as Caroline Spencer for four years on B&B, we are thrilled so see what Linsey Godfrey brings to Salem and who she’ll be interacting with. Maybe she’ll catch the eye of someone at the Horton Center. You never know!
Days of our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Episodes are available on NBC.com
So happy she’s joined DAYS OF OUR LIVES, though, I did project her to be in the role of Stephanie Johnson. But, regardless, this is fantastic news for Linsey. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL wasted her the last two years of her tenure as Caroline. Kudos!
