Report: Are The Ashbys Being Phased Out at The Young and the Restless?

1

Two months after TV Source Magazine broke news of Mishael Morgan’s departure from the Young and the Restless, it looks like another fan favorite, Christel Khalil, will be following. At least, temporarily. And we’re hearing she’s not the only one.

Khalil announced the change in her contract status on Twitter earlier today, writing, “Hello Lovelies! I wanted you to be the first to know that if you see less of me on @youngandrestlesscbs , it’s because I have decided to switch from Y&R full time to recurring status. That means I’m not leaving, just ready (after 16 amazing years playing Lily) to explore new things! I will continue to be a proud member of the Y&R family and look forward to further adventures playing Lily. Thank you for all the love and support over the years!”

We first heard rumblings of Khalil’s change in status on August 25. We began reaching out to additional set sources for confirmation. Earlier today, we contacted her manager for comment. Three hours later, the actress announced her move to recurring. Interesting.

Anyways, we hear Lily will in fact pay for the car crash that ended the lives of Hilary and her unborn child with her freedom. We’re hearing that Lily will be sentenced to 1 year in jail as opposed to the 20 years she was facing. That’s nothing in soap time, right? They can easily plead that down to time served, community service or house arrest. We never really thought that Lily would actually go to jail. That was until heard that in the midst of all of this, our sources revealed Christel Khalil had been dropped to recurring, filmed her last scene and is expected to be off screen for anywhere from 6 months to a year.

So, where does that leave Cane, Mattie and Charlie while Lily is in jail? We hear they might be slowly phased out.  Sources are calling it a “blatant shift from the Winters/Ashbys to the newly created Rosales family.” Speaking of the Winters, if you’re wondering what that means for Devon and Neil, we’re told that Devon’s noticeable lack of screen time in the aftermath of his own wife’s death is no coincidence. While we couldn’t gather contractual information on either Bryton James or Kristoff St. John, we were told “the Winters Wednesdays of years past will look like a feast compared to what’s coming up.”

Truth be told, we’re hoping this isn’t the case. But we also hoped our sources were wrong about Hilary dying in the car crash and looked how that panned out.

  1. I am not surprised at the phasing out of the Ashby family; honestly, they’ve been overkill for quite some time now, and the “Lane” fans have to be some of the most annoying to exist. There are tons of pairings that could have and should have worked for both Cane and Lily and, yet, the “Lane” fans refuse to accept anything touch their special ones. So, at this point, they gotta go. As for Neil and Devon, I do hope they stick around and are given more to their own storylines.
