After 20 seasons, NBC surprisingly cancelled flagship series Law & Order over eleven years ago. Today, NBC announced they have ordered season 21 of the original series which created an entire franchise and universe of shows. No cast is announced currently but it’s likely we will see some familiar faces when the show returns. Earlier in the year NBC ordered a new series Law & Order: For the Defense but ultimately canceled the show before it got started. No time frame is set for the series to air, possibly midseason, but could be next season.
Chip and Joanna Gaines’s Magnolia Network has been given a premiere date, replacing Discovery’s DIY Network. Magnolia Network has been streaming on Discovery+ and the series will now make their linear debut starting January 5. The network rebranding will kick off with an episode of Chip and Joanna’s Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. Additional new titles for the network are Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, Home Work, The Lost Kitchen, Family Dinner, The Johnnyswim Show, and Super Dad. Additionally the entire library of the HGTV series Fixer Upper will air along with episodes of This Old House. Previous DIY Network series like Maine Cabin Masters, Barnwood Builders, Restoring Galveston, Bargain Mansions, Stone House Revival, Building Off the Grid and Beachfront Bargain Hunt Renovation will air.
FXX has renewed Archer for season thirteen. The eight episode season will premiere in 2022 and will be the first season without Jessica Walter voicing Malory Archer, following the actresses untimely passing.
Former Bachelor Jesse Palmer is set to host the upcoming 26th season of The Bachelor. Palmer is a current ESPN and ABC college football analyst. The ABC franchise has been searching for a permanent host following the firing of former host Chris Harrison.
Amazon has officially ordered The Boys spinoff to series. Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips will portray young superheroes, with additional cast to be announced. The as-yet-untitled new series from Sony Pictures Television is set at America’s only college for superheroes.
Disney+ has renewed The Mysterious Benedict Society for season 2. The series stars Tony Hals and is based on the YA book series by Trenton Lee Stewart. The series follows a group of orphans led by Hale’s character who help try to bring down a conspiracy using their wits, intellect, and empathy. The series was initially ordered at hulu before moving to Disney+.
SNL’s director Don Roy King who has been with the snow since 2006 is retiring. There have only been four directors on the long running series. Liz Patrick is set to take over directing duties after previously being the director for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Season 47 premieres October 2.
William Shatner is working on a mixed-reality, adult animated series based on Shatner’s hit science fiction thriller TekWar. The series follows a former Los Angeles detective in futuristic Los Angeles who was framed for the crime of dealing an illegal mind-altering drug in the form of a bio-digital microchip. It poses a great threat to humanity and has the potential to become a virus that will lead to an unrecoverable future.
Sarah Drew has been cast in Apple TV+’s upcoming comedy series Amber Brown. The series is based on the book series by Paula Danziger. The series follows a girl finding her own voice through art and music in the wake of her parents’ divorce.
Lori Loughlin is set to return to TV for the first time since her public legal battles. GAC Family, the network formerly known as Great American Country, has picked up season 2 of When Hope Calls, a spinoff of Hallmark Channel’s When Calls The Heart, which Loughlin used to star on. She will be reprising her character Abigail Stanton in the two-part season two premiere, set for Saturday, December 18, titled When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas. GAC Family is run by former Hallmark Channel CEO Bill Abbott.
Season 11 of Curb Your Enthusiasm is set to return to HBO October 24. We also got a first teaser for the new season.
