Steve Burton Set Return to Salem in Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem!

Rumors have been swirling for a while now that Steve Burton would be joining the cast of Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem and today we got confirmation that the rumors are true! Representatives from Peacock, the streaming service that is home to Beyond Salem confirmed today that Burton is part of the cast for the upcoming installment of the Days of our Lives series spin off!

Soap fans know that Burton got his start on Days of our Lives in 1988 when he played the recurring role of Harris Michaels for multiple episodes. He later went on to soap opera super stardom as Jason Morgan on General Hospital. He left GH in November of 2021 over the vaccine mandate put in place by ABC/Disney, saying at the time in an Instagram video for his fans. “I know there’s been a lot of rumors and speculation about me and I wanted you to hear it from me personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate.” At the time, he expressed hopes that he would be able to return to GH when the mandate was lifted but as of right now, it is still in place.

When we last saw Jason Morgan he was being buried under a collapsing tunnel and presumed dead. No body was ever found which seems to have left the door open for an eventual return and repeated onscreen mentions of the character has fueled a lot of speculation by fans that a return was imminent, speculation that was quieted, at least momentarily, by today’s news.

Burton revealed in an interview with SoapHub that he is reprising the role of Harris Michaels. “I started my daytime career on Days of our Lives in 1988 while on a hiatus from the sitcom I was doing called Out of This World when I was a senior in high school. It’s been really cool to reprise the character I started with, Harris Michaels.”

DOOL Head Writer Ron Carlivati took to Twitter shortly after the news was announced to share his excitement over the news.

We are looking forward to next week’s episode of his weekly podcast, That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford, which he co-hosts with Bradford Anderson, Spinelli on General Hospital to see if Burton reveals any additional details about his character.

Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem will return with 5 new episodes starting Monday, July 11. New episodes will drop daily until July 15. It will be available exclusively on Peacock premium. Stay tuned to TV Source for all the Beyond Salem breaking news and exclusive interviews coming your way soon!

She loves a wide range of movies and TV shows and will happily repeat her favorites of both endlessly, much to the dismay of her children. She also loves almost all genres of music, reading, wine, tea, swimming, backgammon, bingo, pedicures, and almost anything beach or lake related. She is a massive Star Wars nerd and an embarrassingly huge Kevin Smith and Lin-Manuel Miranda fangurl. General Hospital’s Carly is her all-time favorite soap character, and she will challenge you to a duel for suggesting Carly and Jason are not soulmates in every way. Above all, Angela loves her 5 kids, 3 cats and 2 dogs, not always in that order.
