A Different World returns to Hillman College with a new class stepping onto campus – and beloved faces coming home. At the center is Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), Whitley and Dwayne’s lovingly sheltered youngest daughter, a free spirit with a flair for the spotlight and a big heart who’s still figuring out her own path at Hillman. Along the way, she’s joined by a new generation that reflects the breadth of Black life on campus: Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai), a first gen criminal justice major; Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV), a five star athlete choosing legacy; Amir Rodale (Jordan Aaron Hall), a sharp psych major better at fixing everyone else’s problems than facing his own; Hazel Henry (Kennedi Reece), a church raised small town girl defining her own values; and Kojo Achebe (Chibuikem Uche), a Ghanaian Nigerian fashion entrepreneur finding the courage to follow his vision. Legacy favorites also return, including Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), Freddie Brooks (Cree Summer), and Ron Johnson (Darryl M. Bell). Set against the rituals, humor, and nuances of an HBCU, it is a hopeful dramedy, full of heart and unapologetically centered on the richness and complexity of the Black experience.
Disney+ has ordered an adaptation of the Archie Comics Afterlife with Archie. The series will premiere around Halloween 2027. The adaptation turns the all-American town of Riverdale into a zombie-overrun apocalypse – where the only thing scarier than the undead is trying to survive your teenage years. When a supernatural spell from a certain teen witch backfires, unleashing an army of the possessed dead upon Riverdale, Archie and his friends must fight to stay alive, testing the friendships, romances, and loyalties that have always held them together.
D.O.P.E. Unit premieres August 6 on ALLBLK. A covert crime drama set in Philadelphia, following an off-the-books undercover task force known as the D.O.P.E. Unit as it wages a secret war against powerful crime families. As violence escalates and political pressure mounts, the series explores systemic corruption, moral ambiguity, and the consequences of institutional choices in a world where loyalty and justice collide. As the operation deepens, personal lives unravel, trust erodes, and every decision carries a cost that reshapes the mission and those sworn to uphold it.
The Forsaken Saintess and Her Foodie Road Trip premieres August 19 on HIDIVE. Late 20’s caregiver Rin Takanashi has been summoned as a saint, only to then be dumped alone in another world. Equipped with just her ridiculously overpowered god-like skills, Motor Home aka “Mochan” and Survival, she decides to indulge her love of solo camping and cooking in this strange new place. ABC’s Scrubs revival series has set its season two cast. Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke will return as series regulars. Ava Bunn, who recurred in the first season, will be a series regular for the upcoming second season. Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow will continue to recur as interns. Original stars John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes will continue to recur. Original star Neil Flynn and Rachel Bilson will both recur after appearing as guest stars in the first season. Christa Miller will continue to be a guest star. Joel Kim Booster and X Mayo will not return for the new season. In season two, J.D., Turk and Elliot have leveled up from interns to icons at Sacred Heart. Now, the respected doctors inspire the next generation while balancing the ups and downs of working in a hospital. Together with characters new and old, they are navigating this next chapter with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.
Jabari Banks, Chloe Fineman, and Jamie McShane have joined the cast of Myron Bolitar as series regulars. Ben McKenzie also joins the cast as a recurring guest star. The upcoming drama series is inspired by Harlan Coben’s most iconic and longest-running series spanning 12 books. Previously announced cast includes Colin Woodell as “Myron Bolitar,” KJ Apa as “Win Lockwood,” and Diane Guerrero as “Esperanza Diaz.” After an injury ends his NBA dreams, Myron Bolitar reinvents himself as a sports agent – using charm, smarts, and a ruthless partner to navigate the high-stakes and dirty world of sports, where saving his clients often means risking himself.
Lewis Pullman has joined the cast of Apple TV’s Guilty Creatures. The true crime thriller is adapted from Mikita Brottman’s book. Pullman joins previously announced Julia Garner.
The Portrait of a Lady, based on the classic novel by Henry James, is coming soon to Masterpiece PBS. Nell Tiger Free leads the ensemble as Isabel Archer, a vivacious New World ingénue who leaves America for Old World Europe, keen to experience all that life has to offer. A young woman with charm and an innate intellectual curiosity, Isabel rejects a series of marriage proposals, but when she inherits an unexpected fortune that promises to grant her freedom, she falls prey to two American ex-pat schemers: the elegant Madame Merle, played by Bafta-nominee Gemma Arterton, and the charming but calculating Gilbert Osmond, played by Jim Sturgess. Two new Roku Original films will launch on The Roku Channel: Second Chance Holiday, starring Ayesha Curry and Matthew Daddario and The Holiday Spark, starring Joey Graziadei in his first feature film and Jamie Chung. In Second Chance Holiday, dating expert Chelsey (Ayesha Curry) is determined to break her so-called “curse” of always getting dumped during the holiday season. But when fate reunites her with her high school flame (Matthew Daddario), she wonders if her bad luck might just be the universe’s way of leading her back to her first love.
