General Hospital has sent out a casting call for role that sounds a hell of a lot like Sam McCall. Is Kelly Monaco being replaced?
Shocking soap fans, General Hospital releases a casting call for the role of Sam McCall, currently being portrayed by Kelly Monaco. According to reports from Soap Opera Digest, the character is described as “early 30s, female, Caucasian, brunette, sexy, dynamic and fiery…SERIES REGULAR. This is a character who has been established on the show.”
The role of Sam McCall has been played by Kelly Monaco since 2003. Since her introduction to the canvas, Sam McCall has played mob moll to the likes of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), she’s also been paired with Lucky Spencer (Greg Vaughan) for a short time.
In 2006, Sam learned she was the daughter of Assistant District Attorney Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), making Sam a member of the ruthless Cassadine family. Also that year, it seemed the bottom fell out for Sam when her mobster boyfriend, Jason Morgan, broke up with her following an accidental shooting. She went on to have a one night stand with her Ric Lansing (then portrayed by Rick Hearst), who at the time, was married to her mother. After a reconciliation with Jason, she eventually learned Jason fathered a child with her rival Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and went into revenge mode. After the blowup of her relationship with Jason, she moved onto Lucky, which ended earlier this year. Since the decision to become a P.I., she has routinely found herself in Jason’s path yet again.
This shocking news comes shortly after it was confirmed Steve Burton had re-signed with General Hospital. ABC had no comment on the casting call, nor Kelly Monaco’s status with the show, as they do not comment on actor’s contracts.
