The CW continues to beef up its already loaded cast for the premiere season of Arrow spinoff, The Flash. Prison Break star Wentworth Miller is the newest star heading to Central City.
Miller’s casting was announced Friday during the summer Television Critics Association tour by executive producer Greg Berlanti. The hunky actor will guest star as Leonard Smart, also known as Captain Cold. He will first appear in the fourth episode.
For those new to The Flash universe, the popular Captain Cold is the leader of the Rogues and a frequent foil of The Flash (Grant Gustin).
The Flash stars Gustin (Glee) as Barry Allen/The Flash, a Central City assistant police forensics investigator who, after a freak accident, is struck by lightning and imbued with the power of super speed. Barry was introduced in Arrow’s two-part winter finale. The origin series follows in the footsteps of other superhero adaptations Smallville and Arrow.
Other main cast members include: Candice Patton as Iris West, the female lead and quick-witted love interest of Barry; Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) as Central City Detective West; Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness) as bioengineering expert Caitlin Snow; Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries) as Detective Eddie Thawne; Carlos Valdes as mechanical engineering genius Cisco Ramon; Tom Cavanaugh as “rock star” physicist and financial tycoon Harrison Wells; and the original Barry Allen, John Wesley Shipp (Dawson’s Creek) as Barry’s father. The series recently added Tomorrow People alum Robbie Amell as one Ronnie Raymond, aka one half of Firestorm.
Arrow’s Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter will executive produce. DC’s Geoff Johns will write and executive produce The Flash.
The Flash premieres October 7 on The CW.
