Bones fans can officially breathe a sigh of relief. FOX announced on Friday that the procedural drama would be returning for its 11th season after the network negotiated new contracts for stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz. Showrunner Stephen Nathan will be stepping down temporarily to work on other projects and Johnathan Collier and Michael Peterson, both executive producers, will share the showrunner duties in his absence.
Update 4:45 pm EST: The Following has been canceled after three seasons.
Update 5:04 pm EST: Freshman drama Backstrom has been canceled.
FOX previously renewed Bob’s Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Empire, Family Guy, Gotham, The Last Man on Earth, Masterchef Junior, New Girl, The Simpsons and Sleepy Hollow.
The series finale of Glee aired March 20. Kitchen Nightmares, Red Band Society and Gracepoint were officially canceled earlier this season. FOX passed on another season of The Mindy Project, but there is still hope NBC Universal, the studio behind the series, could make a deal with Hulu to continue the show.
No word yet on the fates of comedies Mulaney and Weird Loners. We will update you as soon as we know something.
Update May 11, 8:20 am EST: Fox has officially canceled Mulaney and Weird Loners and announced a final season for American Idol.
