With the 50th Anniversary around the corner and a new creative team at the helm, casting changes are to be expected as NBC’s last standing sudser Days of our Lives looks to revamp itself. Executive producer Ken Corday stated in an interview with Soap Opera Digest his plans to save Days. Part of that plan seems to entail a makeover for the cast.
As reported by Daytime Royalty’s Jason47, the latest actor to be exiting the Emmy winning daytime drama is True O’Brien. O’Brien joined Days in 2014 as Eve Donovan’s (Kassie DePaiva) innocent teenage daughter Paige Larson. Paige was paired with fan favorite JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss) and engulfed in a front burner love triangle that involved her mother. While the story line itself may have seemed edgy on paper, the execution for the most part fell flat. Paige failed to appeal to fans as many felt that Paige’s romance JJ was ill-suited for the once intriguing bad boy.
O’Brien began her acting career with a guest role on the series Jesse before joining Days. Previously she had worked as a model for Ford Models, appearing in ads for Guess as well as the Girlfriend perfume campaign with Justin Bieber.
Days has been enticing viewers with some exciting new additions and it was announced this week by Michael Fairman that All My Children alum Sal Stowers would be joining the series as Lani. Not much is know yet about the new character but Stowers began filming the role in April so audiences can expect to see her debut this fall.
The America’s Next Top Model winner played Cassandra Foster on Prospect Park’s online version of AMC. Stowers received praise for role of a young human trafficking victim and acted opposite popular daytime veterans such as Debbi Morgan. Stowers’ other credits include guest spots on Ugly Betty, The Exes, New Girl and Switched at Birth.
With all the casting comings and goings, it can be a little hard to keep track. TVSource Magazine will post a complete list of the departures, returns and debuts soon.
The saddest thing about True’s leaving for me, is that I was finally starting to see something in her. She had a spark that wasn’t there earlier in some of her scenes with her mother and Hope and her friend (forgot her name).
Hearing Sal will be joining the show has me stoked though! I cannot praise her work on AMC enough – she was just phenomenal, especially given the story line. Hope Days gives her a good character (hopefully with ties to Salem) and a good story line.
Thanks for commenting! I agree. Wish Days had planned things a little better for their exits.
The show lost its luster when Ali & James left. Most of the S/L included those actors and they brought a lot of excitement to the show.
Days has had such great teen scenes in the past and Paige was just not one of them. The character and her story were very dull and un-Days like.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Josh and Dena bring for the show’s 5oth too. Thanks for reading and commenting!
True O’Brien’s exit is almost one year too late. The actress was boring to watch, and the character was ill-conceived and written. She was a Hope Logan wannabe, but it didn’t work. So this exit is long overdue. And with Sal Stowers joining DAYS as Lani, I’m kind of excited that she’s joining the cast. Josh and Dena are going to be a strong team of writers, and I have high hopes for the fiftieth anniversary.
