At the ABC Television Network upfront presentation on May 16, 2017, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey announced it’s ordered a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff drama straight to series from Shondaland.
Set in a Seattle firehouse, the latest series from the executive producers of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder follows a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, we follow these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s‘ signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” said Dungey.
Shondaland veteran Stacy McKee will write the script for the project and executive produce the series. Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) and Betsy Beers Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) are executive producers. The series will be produced by ABC Studios.
The firefighter drama is the second spinoff from Grey’s Anatomy. Private Practice, which ran for six season, centered on Kate Walsh’s Addison Montgomery, the ex-wife of Grey’s Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
Grey’s Anatomy, now in its 13th season, continues to be a strong performer for the alphabet network. The veteran series anchors ABC’s much-hyped Thursday “TGIT” lineup at 8:00 pm and is the number one rated scripted drama.
