Eileen Davidson Let Go From 'The Young and the Restless'

5

Fan favorite Eileen Davidson (Ashley) has been let go from CBS’ ‘The Young and the Restless.’

Rumors of the actress’ departure began this morning when Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens reported he was hearing the star was out. Soon after, Davidson confirmed the news when she tweeted, “Last week I lost my childcare. This week I lost my job! It all works out because I don’t need a babysitter if I’m not working. #beingpositive.”

This is sad news for Eileen and fans of Y&R, who lost yet another fan favorite. However there may be some upside to this news. Soap Opera Digest hints that the actress could be making a return to NBC’s Days of our Lives as Kristen Blake (maybe Susan too), a role she played from 1993-1998. During her tenure at DAYS, Davidson earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for playing five characters (Kristen, Susan, Sister Mary Moira, Thomas and Penelope)!

This marks the second time Davidson has been fired from the show; She was fired in 2006 by then-executive producers Lynn Marie Latham and Josh Griffith. Davidson would join sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful from 2007-2008 before returning to Y&R in the summer of 2008.

My Take: The fact that Eileen Davidson, one of the best actresses in daytime, has been let go represents everything wrong at The Young and the Restless. Faced with sagging record low ratings, head writer/executive producer Maria Arena Bell would rather double down on awful storylines (Victor/Sharon romance, Daniel marrying his rapist) featuring awful characters (Daisy, Genevieve) with lackluster actors than refocus the show on the characters who made the series #1 for over 20 years. There is no good reason to let go one of your strongest actresses. None whatsoever. Awful decision.

  2. OMG, i can not believe what i am reading. Y&R would rather keep whiny Daisy and unattractive Genevive than Ashley?   Something is very wrong here!!!!!!!!!!  Ok tucker has cheated and Ashley is pissed but she is not the women that would just run away, it that what they are going to do with her character?  and this Sharon and Victor thing…..is Faith going to end up calling him DADDY or will he still be grampa?  Does she really have to have every Newman Man…..KEEP ASHLEY!!!!!

  3. This writer is totally ruining the show. The Victor/Sharon story is sickening and there are too many new unrecognizable characters. Totally uninteresting.

  4. Wow what a shock! But on the other hand it would be awesome for her to go back to Days at Kristen! That would be great! Especially with the current storyline, it would be a good time for her to make a comeback! Hope this happens!!  But like the last comment said, it is sad that they fired one of the best actresses on daytime. With Eileen leaving , could Stephen Nichols be next to leave and go back to Days??  HMMMM!!

  5. Well said!
