SYFY’s newest reality series Face Off premiered with huge ratings for the network among adults 18-49. Not since the original Ghost Hunters premiere in 2004 has a reality show taken top spot for its debut episode.
Face Off drew in 1.4 million viewers and 896,000 Adults 18-49 during its January 26 premiere episode. It also continues SYFY’s momentum for its batch of new original series. The supernatural drama Being Human scored 2 million viewers for its second episode airing January 24.
Face Off is a reality series which is a competition of 12 makeup artists competing for $100,000 and year’s supply of makeup courtesy of Alcone. Each week the contestants will compete in a series of special effect make up challenges. Each contestant will be judged by the most renowned names in SFX world, including three-time Academy Award winner Ve Neill, famed special make-up effects artist Glenn Hetrick and director/creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos.
McKenzie Westmore, known for her role as Sheridan Crane on NBC’s Passions, serves as host of the series. Westmore’s family set the bar in the film and television makeup industry. Her great grand-father George Westmore paved the way for the industry and her father Michael followed in his footsteps becoming the makeup artist for the TV series, Star Trek. The Westmore family was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their contributions to the industry in 2008.
The newest episode of Face Off will challenge the contestants when they are asked to transform live human models into live masterpieces, inspired by a rainforest, the ocean, waterfalls or an abstract painting. Face Off is a production of Mission Control Media with Dwight D. Smith and Michael Agbabian serving as executive producers. The series airs Wednesdays at 10PM, following Ghost Hunters International on the SYFY channel.
