90210 News: Loughlin, Eggold To Exit

0

As the kids of 90210 head off to college next season, they’ll do so without original cast members Lori Loughlin and Ryan Eggold. Earlier today TVLine reported exits were on the way. Later, a rep for 90210 confirmed the contracts for Lori Loughlin and Ryan Eggold have not been picked up for season four and as a result, will exit the series at the end of the season.

Loughlin plays Deb Wilson, mother of Annie and Dixon who will graduate, while Eggold portrays Ryan Matthews, their West Beverly Hills High English teacher.

Each has had their fair share of screen time and scandalous stories on the show. Deb’s crumbling marriage was shown last season and ultimately led to her husband, played by Rob Estes, leaving the show at the end of season two. Ryan has tried hard to connect with his students academically, gotten involved and had a child with the sister of one of his students, and turned to alcohol a few times to get by. Their storylines have led them in separate directions in past seasons, but this season they’ve intertwined, currently leaving them in a secret romance.

It’s not much of a surprise that the two are exiting. This is typical when the young cast of a show leaves the nest and it’s time for them to go off to college, attend even more keg parties, and get into deeper trouble than they already have. They just won’t have the adults to lean anymore when times get really tough. The parents faded to the background in the original series, but still made guest appearances from time to time, so maybe we’ll at least see Loughlin in the future.

For now, viewers are left wondering how Eggold and Loughlin will exit the show. Only time will tell.
