Days of our Lives star Peter Reckell (Bo) issues a heartfelt statement on his departure from DAYS on Twitter.

After months of speculation and rumors, Reckell officially confirmed his departure from the show he’s called home since 1983. Soap Opera Digest reported exclusively in its May 14th issue that the popular actor was informing his co-stars of his impending exit. Soap Uncensored Editor Nelson Branco reported from a source in Issue 34 of his publication that the issue “is kinda about money and it’s kinda not,” with the paycut a catalyst for his exit.

In his own words, Reckell spoke directly to his fans on his official Twitter account (@PeterReckell):

Days of our Lives has been my home, my life for almost 30 years. Bo is a character that developed from my soul and has touched many lives but none more than my own. I took my place in the hierarchy of the show, in storyline, moving others aside in the eighty’s. Now others have moved into the place I once held. I have been very fortunate to have such a long, meaningful run. But now, with a torn heart, I have to say goodbye to the people, family, and the character that I love. You have to know this has not been easy. I do not want to give up Bo, and with luck, in the future, will be able to return to the character that I fought so hard to preserve. Thank you for being the most supportive, forgiving, loyal viewers there are. You have given me strength in difficult times. You are the reason DOOL is still standing and will continue for years to come. Thank you all for you have given me and the character I love. Bo will be in the story until late October, so we do have some time together.”

Just how Bo will exit the canvas has yet to be revealed. Reckell’s exit caps the bloodbath in recent months, which has seen fan favorites Patrick Muldoon (Austin), Christie Clark (Carrie), Matt Ashford (Jack), newcomers Sarah Brown (Madison) and Ian Buchanan (Ian) fired after a change in head writers. Molly Burnett (Melanie) recently announced she would not extend her contract with the show and taped her last episode last week.

  1. Oh yes, while I’m at it, they should keep Matt Ashford, as well, and make Bo, Hope, Jack and Jen central characters.

  2. This makes absolutely no sense! I pray these boneheads at the top will come to their senses and keep PR. DOOL is supposed to be about family and they are straying so far from that. Bo & Hope are really at the core of the show and need to stay!

  3. I agree with all the other people being let go, finally no more carrie and austin, but not Bo he was a great character!

  4. I am outraged that they are letting Peter go. On his last day, it will be my last day for EVER watching Days again.

  5. This show is a mess.
