Stars from NBC’s Days of our Lives donned purple in celebration of the anti-bullying campaign, Spirit Day.
Spirit Day is an annual day in October when millions of Americans wear purple to speak out against bullying and show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.
Soap stars Deidre Hall (Marlena), Kate Mansi (Abigail), Shawn Christian (Daniel), Kristian Alfonso (Hope), Bill Hayes (Doug), Blake Berris (Nick), Camilla Banus (Gabi), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Eileen Davidson (Kristen), Eric Martsolf (Brady), Freddie Smith (Sonny) partook in the celebration, donning various shades of purple.
The soap introduced its first gay character in Sonny Kiriakis in 2011. Sonny’s introduction helped legacy character Will Horton (Emmy winner Chandler Massey) come to terms with his own sexuality, coming out to his family in 2012. Will and Sonny are the only openly gay characters on American daytime soap operas right now.
