Days of our Lives alum Thaoo Penghlis (ex-Tony/Andre) is returning to his old stomping grounds, but not at NBC! The actor is set to reprise his role as Victor Cassadine, brother of super villain Mikkos Cassadine on ABC’s General Hospital!
Soap Opera Digest reports the actor will report to set early next year and will first air Thursday, January 30, 2014. It’s been 32 years since Victor Cassadine was seen in Port Charles! Like his brothers Mikkos (John Colicos) and Tony (Andre Landzaat), Victor was obsessed with the Ice Princess diamond, hoping to harness its power to take over the world.
Yes, Victor played a part in General Hospital’s infamous “Ice Princess” storyline, which saw the Cassadines attempt world domination by utilizing a diamond powered weather machine. When not engaging in his megalomaniacal schemes, Victor had a brief affair with actress Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt). After the Cassadines were thwarted by Luke Spencer (Tony Geary), Victor was sent to prison, where he’s presumably been all these years.
After departing GH in 1981, Penghlis went on to star in NBC’s Days of our Lives as Count Tony DiMera that same year. Two years later, he began playing Tony’s lookalike cousin Andre. For over two decades (albeit intermittently), he played the dual roles, partaking in some of daytimes most outlandish storylines The characters were killed off in 2009 after Penghlis and others were let go due to budget cuts.
Thaoo Penghlis earned his first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2008. The actor’s additional credits include Magnum, P.I., Mission: Impossible, Santa Barbara, and Emissary. Thaoo Penghlis earned his first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2008.
What kind of man has Victor become since 1981? I’m thrilled to see what the writers have in store for the character. I’m hoping this is the beginning of a re-investment in the Cassadine family. With Alexis, Molly, Sam, Nikolas and Spencer living in Port Charles, one can only imagine how they’ll handle his return.
YES YES YES
