Who Will Win – Alison Sweeney
One of the greatest and most popular actresses in daytime was finally recognized for her work after 20 years in the business. Now that Alison Sweeney has made her exit from Days of our Lives, she could finally bring home the award that’s eluded her throughout her storied career. Sweeney’s choice to move on to other career paths could mean this is her last shot to win and buzz from her exit will get her noticed.
The reason Alison Sweeney might lose is the same reason she may win – the length of her reel. To take that kind of journey with another actor and not let up once is to be applauded, but it’s not without its downside. There were some other scenes that may have been better choices due to the length.
It got a little campy at the end when Sami confronted Abigail, but for the most part this was stellar work. All of the emotions, the up and downs. She threw every bit of herself into the quiet moments as she did the frantic ones.
Sami describing all the reasons she could think of as to why EJ would cheat with Abigail was our favorite in part because she conveyed a raw pain and honesty. “She’s so pretty, so young, so thin.” How many women in this situation have done this? Judging themselves against the mistress? It’s a realism that, while on paper, could not have some to life without Sweeney’s soul crushing performance. It was delivered as only an actress of Alison Sweeney’s caliber could. Kudos to the unintentional laughter that resulted when EJ accused of her not being rational. That was a real 0 to 100 (real quick) moment on Sweeney’s part.
The strength of the reel once again comes down to range – something Sweeney gets to show a lot of.
Counter Opinion: Only Maura West can play such a wide array of emotions in eight minutes. For that reason I think she will end up winning, it doesn’t hurt that she has won before and has potentially the support of co-stars from three shows (As The World Turns, Young and the Restless, General Hospital). – Walker Ragsdale (@iamwalkerR), Staff Writer.
