Gays of Our Lives: Divine Intervention

Eyewitness  (U.K.)

Interesting twist with Mita being set up for his daughter’s death.  Didn’t see that one coming, nor did I expect Sita to murder him.vlcsnap-2016-11-14-16h24m45s835

And the bit about Philip telling Helen about Lucas seeing the murder?  I don’t get why Philip didn’t say he’d been there too since he’d been wanting to tell the truth the whole time?  Was it to protect the affair?  I guess so, but I think Helen will figure that out anyway.

Well, with several weeks to go, it’s obvious Lukas won’t kill himself.  But I’m curious to see where this all goes from here with everything starting to unravel.

I need for Lukas to stop abusing Philip physically and emotionally though.  That’s won’t help me get invested in seeing them work it out.  It just isn’t romantic.

Ugh. I hate the new McQueens already.  I guess the show has to keep coming up with new McQueens though when old ones leave in order to keep them a core family.  But I wish these were more appealing.

I’m enjoying seeing James and JP being flirty and happy.   They’re really a nice couple and great characters together and separately.  I’m ready for a story for them though that’s about them.  It’s been awhile.  In fact, I can’t remember the last time John Paul had a storyline.

Neighbours  (Australia)david

I haven’t been watching lately, but I can see not much has changed with Aaron (and David).  Aaron is still wandering around with no real job.   Given that, why would Angus entrust Aaron with his music career? Aaron has never helped anybody and usually wound up getting fired.

Angus is an okay singer (if that’s actually the actor singing) and his music is the typical boy band stuff that for some reason makes stars out of teenage boys.  But that video was terrible and had nothing to do with the song.  They would have been better off just showing the band perform rather than the other folks mugging in the background.

The bit of flirting with Aaron and David was cute, but I get the sense there’s no real story here.  I suspect in a month or so David will come out, he and Aaron will very quickly become a couple and then go nowhere and do nothing.

People of the Valley (Wales)

vlcsnap-2016-11-14-16h10m34s372I’m glad Iolo and Tyler survived the wedding day carnage, but I wish the events had of been more about them than everybody else’s drama.  I would have even been okay with one of them being in peril, but surviving if only for them to get some more focus on their special day.

Instead, they wound up being background players in their own big event.  I do hope, however, that Ricky comes forward real quick and admits he was the father of Courtney’s baby.  I hope he doesn’t stand around and let Eifion be labeled a pedophile.

Quantico  (U.S.)

I quit watching this show last season after they had Simon pretend he was gay and then killed off the only actual gay they had.  Not my idea of entertaining.  That and the storyline was far too confusing, convoluted and over the top.  But when the delicious Russell Tovey joined the cast I wanted to see if the show had improved.  I can’t say it has, in terms of story, but at least Tovey is fun to watch.   He’s sexy, badass and ballsy.  Love it.  He might be the best thing on this show.  And the show isn’t treating being gay as something disdainful or shameful.  So far anyway.  As long as they don’t kill off the gay guy or make him the villain, I’ll watch.harry

I’m guessing Harry and Sabastian have an affair in the past but it ends because in the future we know Sabastian is married, which Harry wasn’t happy to find out.  I’m sure it doesn’t end with that kiss.

I thought it was strange they didn’t show us how Harry and company escaped from the terrorist and rescued the girls since it made no sense, but some deleted scenes explained everything.  They should have made it fit on the show and cut something else.

I’m guessing it’ll turn out Miranda isn’t evil and this all some master plot?  That’s how this show usually works.

Blair Underwood looks good in those boxer briefs.  Time has been very kind to him.

One thing is that I’ve never cared for ‘exercise’ part of the show.  I realize it’s necessary, but it’s always been the least interesting.

Rownd a Rownd (Wales)

It’s probably vlcsnap-2016-11-14-16h11m27s224my imagination, but I could have sworn that street Rhys and Barry were walking down is one of the streets I’ve seen on People of the Valley.   They are both Welsh soaps so it’s possible they were both shot in the same set.  But it could just be me.

So David sabotaged his car just so he could spend some time with Rhys and ask him about his date?  I figured David was jealous.  I guess he’s in the struggling/denial phase right now.  I do appreciate Rhys taking a step back and letting David deal with things in his own time.  Thankfully, he’s not being a pushy gay.  But let’s get this story moving, shall we?

I watch a lot of television, probably too much. But can you really watch too much TV? I've yet to find out. Anyway, I especially love TV when they give us positive portrayals of gays, something that has gotten better but we're still fighting for. I've written about gays in television for many years first at the much missed After Elton, then New Now Next and now at TV Source. It's kind of a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing it with you.

  1. Is there going to be a column this week?

  2. I can’t wait to see the Whites gone from emmerdale. They have never fitted into that show and I so dislike them (its turning into hate).
Let Robert be the new owner of Home farm that would be interesting!!

  3. I think Harry’s point was that they’d be happy enough to take him to bed but that they wouldn’t be willing to treat him as an equal either as a romantic partner or as a friend.

I hate it when characters act selfishly then get indignant when people refuse to defer to their desires. When it’s Tracy or Kerry expecting people to protect them from their bad choices, I get annoyed but can get over it. When it is Chrissie and Lawrence ruining other people’s lives and then using their money to get away with it before whining that other people get away with much smaller slights against them, I want them gone. Characters like Robert, Charity, or Ross will cross the line, but they won’t begrudge their victims fighting back. That’s just the cost of walking the dark side.

Why even bother with a custody hearing? Ste is a recovering drug addict with a history of domestic violence who relies on his boyfriend’s father to avoid being homeless and has a medical condition that caused him to abduct his children and punch a cop.

  4. I don’t even have any idea if they are trying to make Chrissie look that awful. What she said about Val was awful, but she didn’t mean to hurt Rebecca and she was torn about helping her – it was Lachlan who moved her away. My main view of Chrissie is that Emmerdale is very…confused about her.

As for Ross, he’s been scum for several years now. At least now with his anger over his father it makes some sense. I just hope they aren’t going to have Victoria sleep with him. I have a bad feeling they will.

  5. I don’t really see any chemistry between Robert and Rebecca. It doesn’t help that they are essentially the same character and the writing for Rebecca is incredibly degrading. I’m so tired of seeing some “Robron” fans raking her over the coals when they turn a blind eye to Robert and Aaron both doing horrible things. This story pretty much made Rebecca look awful from the getgo because she has no loyalty beyond Robert’s sizable bulge.

  6. About A Place to Call Home: James is just ignoring his feelings for Harry for now, because he’s in a relashionship with Henry.

  7. Robert and Rebecca have a really appealing chemistry. What a great twist it would be for Robert to cheat on his fiancé (Aaron) with the sister of the fiancé (Chrissie) whom he cheated on with Aaron. No need to turn violent this time, though, and it would accentuate the fluidity of his sexuality. I can identify with Finn because I’ve had imaginary relationships before – mostly with guys at my gym. Finn and Aaron could develop into a fun comedic duo like Paddy & Marlon and should have more scenes together. I laughed when Finn asked if Robert liked Kylie Minogue and quickly realized he probably didn’t because he is bi.
