I enjoyed Magnus and Alec’s first date, but I felt that the scenes could have been much stronger and more emotional if the writers would dig in with the emotional beats and not keep everything on the surface. This show hasn’t been on but a year, so there isn’t much history. But they are choosing not to play much of the history they created.
It just seemed odd that the show refused to actually say that Magnus had slept with 17,000 people, referring to them as relationships. And why not come right and say Alec was a virgin rather than talking around it?
Also, part of the reason why Alec never got involved with any men was because he was in love with Jace. But again, the show isn’t addressing any of that. It would add more meat and meaning to the scenes, so why avoid what’s right there?
Don’t get me wrong, this is the show’s best story and these guys have incredible chemistry. And the show certainly lavishes time and attention on the romance. It just could be done better.
I like this girl Maia. She and Simon have chemistry and are cute together. And anybody would be better than Clary. I have the feeling Clary is going to decide she needs Simon (since she can’t have her ‘brother’ Jace) and ruin things with someone who actually wants him and would be good for him. But Clary is selfish like that because she’ll drop Simon as soon as Jace becomes available. One of the many reasons I don’t like her much.
Shortland Street (New Zealand)
Poor Jack. Not even a doctor yet and killing patients already. LOL….
It’s natural that Jack’s reaction to a patient dying would be to quit. Physicians further along than him leave the profession because they can’t handle the pressure of being a doctor. I’m glad Jack decided to stay in school though. Cam is right when he said Jack would regret it if he quit.
I liked Cam telling Jack “I don’t know you don’t want to do now, but you still have to”
I don’t remember Cam being this sweet and thoughtful when he was with Kylie though. Just noticing.
Mo ranting about Jack’s no good, drug dealing boyfriend was pretty funny.
Kate rolling her eyes at Mo’s homophobic remark about her being with a woman was perfect. He still has his issues despite having a gay son and living with someone who is transgendered. But I agree, that was the most awkward dinner ever with Vinnie. I hope that the comments about Cam cheating on Jack aren’t foreshadowing, but they probably are.
Mo needs to accept that he is partially responsible for Curtis being in jail. So is Jack for that matter. They were Cam’s drugs, but nobody told Jack and Curtis and Mo to get involved. And part of Mo’s issue with Cam is clearly jealousy that Jack has a man in his life, one that Mo feels is replacing him and is doing things for him that Mo feels he should. I wonder if he would feel this jealousy and this need to be competitive if Cam were a woman.
See, I knew the show would totally forget that last week Leroy had a thing for Blue.
The Halcyon (U.K.)
I’m kind of annoyed that Toby and Adil are falling in love off screen. I mean last week was their first kiss and this week it’s clear that they are in love. But I guess that’s because the show is leaping forward in time between episodes so there are things that take place that we’re not seeing. That scene though, was really sweet.
Of course, it wasn’t destined to last. Having an affair in that hotel with all those eyes they were bound to get caught. But I’m glad they were determined to protect each other. It would have been easy for Toby to walk away and abandon Adil.
While Lucien is blackmailing Adil, I did like him saying that men don’t choose who to fall in love with, a progressive notion in that day and age. Not sure if he believes that or it’s just part of his game. At any rate, with Adil having to spy on Toby, in times of war that can’t end well. I just hope neither one of them gets killed. The show is ending in a couple of weeks. No dead gays, please!

So of course despite their denials, Jeffery and Justin have feelings for each other. I’d actually like to see them go on to have a relationship, but on this show I don’t see that happening. Besides, while the show hasn’t mentioned it for most of the season, Jeffery is engaged with a baby on the way.

Careful what you ask for. We’ve all been saying how Finn should have a story and got our wish with this big ol’ hot mess. I’d love a story for Iolo & Tyler, as well, but am afraid the show will revisit that business about them adopting a child. They haven’t been together long enough to entertain that thought, and it’s a direction that doesn’t interest me at all.
Emmerdale loves to saddle its gay characters with overbearing mothers. It’s not just Emma but goes back to Chas and Hazel. Can’t these guys be independent gay MEN instead of boys whose mother won’t loosen the apron strings and has to get involved in all their decisions?
I’m liking this new, happier Ben on EastEnders. It’s kinda sexy.
I love Toby & Adil
I’m going to take it by your review that you haven’t read the books the Shadowhunters series is based on. A little background without spoiling it for you. The Clave is VERY disapproving of homosexuality. In fact, known homosexuals are usually shunned by the Clave and have even been de-runed. So his virginity is much, much deeper than convincing himself that he’s in love with Jace.
Cam is way sweeter with Jack than he ever was with Kylie. I think with Kylie he was in cocky, charmer mode the entire time. With Jack he’s had a lot of making up to do and a lot of time to ponder Jack’s absence in his life. After rewatching episodes following the whole drugs bust thing, Cam’s attempts at talking/reconnecting with Jack (pre-Jack asking for his job back) were incredibly sweet. You can see he had feelings for Jack back then even.
I stopped watching hollyoaks because of ste and how awful and disgusting he was to jp who just kept being a doormat now that they’re getting close again I’m glad I stopped also I agree with you about Finn they ruined him
They’re just making Finn worse and worse, and it’s bringing down every other character it touches. Can’t Emmerdale have a single gay character that doesn’t belong in jail?
I’d like to see Aaron interact with his newly returned grandmother. Had he ever met her before? I know she’s busy with Chas/Cain/Debbie/Sarah and he’s busy with the trial and the wedding, but it would be good to explore that as well.
I don’t want Ste and JP to get back together. I understood why they initially were pulled together in the aftermath of Doug’s death, but that was before Ste treated JP horribly. The only silver lining would be that Harry can get a boyfriend either his own age or who can manage to stay off the streets without Harry’s dad’s support.
