HBO’s Game of Thrones delivered quite the satisfying episode on July 30, 2017. The Queen’s Justice (S7, Ep4) brought us the long awaited meeting of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, but for me the night was made by none other than the Original Gangster of Westeros, Lady Olenna Tyrell. Lady Olenna has long been a fan favorite, what with her witty comebacks and overall disdain for Cersei. Her classy and quiet manipulations are the opposite of Cersei’s brash behavior.
Everyone loved Lady Olenna when she conspired to murder that sociopathic King Joffrey. She endeared herself to us when she suggested Margaery Tyrell be a lady in the streets but a freak in the sheets to lure the young Tommen into marriage. Last week, she dropped knowledge on Queen Daenerys at Dragonstone and reminded her, “You’re a dragon. Be a dragon”. But alas, our favorite Granny’s time in Westeros has come to an end.
After Jaime and the Lannister army take Highgarden, Lady Olenna doesn’t move a muscle and like the boss ass bitch she is, awaits Jaime in her chambers. She knows her time has come and she asks the sibling banging hurt of the King/Queen what the plan is, how will he do it. She even dispenses some final knowledge upon Jaime, foreshadowing that his sister-lover Cersei will be his undoing. With respect shown, Jaime pours a bit of poison into her wine glass and she gulps it down like a sorority girl during rush week.
Jaime thinks he’s won this battle, but like the OG she is, Lady Olenna makes sure she gets the last word in. Amused, and with nothing left to lose, she informs Jaime it was her that killed Joffrey, oh and could he pass the message on to Cersei? She really wants her to know. Jaime is SHOOK and heads straight for the door. Could this be the bit of information that begins a turn in Jaime? Could Lady Olenna’s final words be the Lannisters undoing?
RIP Lady Olenna Tyrell, the Real OG of Westeros.
