Desperate Housewives alum Nicollete Sheridan is joining the cast of The CW’s Dynasty remake. The primetime soap veteran will play the iconic role of Alexis Carrington, played by Joan Collins in the Aaron Spelling original.

Executive produced by Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl) and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), and Revenge’s Sallie Patrick, Dynasty is a modern-reimagining of the iconic 80s primetime soap centering on the powerful Carrington family as they defend their throne against the Colbys, new rivals and threats, even each other.

Alexis, the first wife of Blake (Grant Show) and mother of Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) and Steven (James Mackay), has been estranged from her children for years.  She will return unexpectedly to their world, challenging Blake’s marriage to Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), seeking to reunite with her children, and fighting to claim what is hers.

Dynasty marks Nicollete Sheridan’s return to primetime television since the end of her tumultuous six-season tenure on ABC’s Desperate Housewives. With credits spanning 3 decades, including primetime soaps Paper Dolls, Knots Landing — Sheridan’s casting is perfect for the role of Alexis.

The CW recently ordered a full season of the freshman drama. Dynasty also stars Sam Adegoke (Murder in the First), Robert Christopher Riley (Hit the Floor), Rafael de la Fuente (Empire) and Alan Dale (The O.C.).

Dynasty airs Wednesdays on The CW.
