Season 6 of ‘Private Practice’ to be Kate Walsh’s last; Showtime announces final season of ‘Weeds’; ‘Terminator 2’ star joining True Blood; Rob Lowe and Scott Bakula join HBO biopic and more!
Kate Walsh has confirmed that the next season of Private Practice will be her last in an appearance on Bethenny Frankel’s talk show. Last month, ABC renewed Private Practice for a 13-episode sixth season, but the network has said that whether or not the show gets a larger order beyond that will depend on the ratings.
CBS has ordered a pilot for Draw Something, based on the popular tablet and mobile phone game from Zynga. Ryan Seacrest will produce the game show along with Michael Davies (The Glee Project). No word yet on who will host the show, but it is unlikely to be Seascrest.
NBC Universal has renewed its syndicated talk shows, Maury, The Jerry Springer Show and The Steve Wilkos Show through September 2016. Maury is ranked number one in the daytime talk show market with 3.3 million viewers each day. Springer’s show has an average of 2.1 million daily viewers and Wilkos has 1.8 daily viewers with a strong showing in the 25-54 demographic.
Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) will be joining the cast of True Blood for three episodes beginning with a flashback sequence on August 5. Patrick will play Jackson Herveaux, who is Alcide’s father.
Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Glee will have a presence at Comic Con after all. Executive producer Brad Falchuk will be joined by cast members Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Darren Criss, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz and Naya Rivera for a Saturday night panel.
Rob Lowe and Scott Bakula have joined the cast of HBO’s Liberace biopic. Michael Douglas was already signed on to star in Behind the Candelabra. Lowe will play Liberace’s plastic surgeon and Bakula will play choreographer Bob Black, who introduced the singer to his longtime partner, Scott Thorson. Matt Damon was already signed onto the project to play Thorson.
Showtime announced that the upcoming eighth season of Weeds will be its last. The network renewed House of Lies, Nurse Jackie and Episodes. The fate of The Big C is still up in the air at this time.
NBC continues to add to the cast of Mockingbird Lane, its remake of The Munsters. Portia de Rossi has been tapped to play Lily Munster, the vampire bride to Jerry O’Connell’s Herman Munster in the pilot from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller.
Love her or hate her, the Hamptons will see more of Amanda Clarke, also known as the original Emily Thorne, on Revenge next season. Margarita Levieva is slated to appear in at seven of the first 14 episodes of season 2. When viewers last saw her, Amanda was sporting a baby bump and ruining Jack and Emily’s big moment in the season finale.
Yvonne Strahovski, best known for her role as Sarah Walker on Chuck, has signed on to Dexter for a multi-episode arc. She’ll play a woman named Hanna McKay, who has a past that she is trying to hide while she is helping the Miami Metro department look into old cases.
