It’s official! In a surprised twist, Steve Burton is back to work at General Hospital, the soap he called home for nearly two decades.

As first reported by Daytime Confidential, Burton is returning to his old stomping grounds. After vacating the role of Jason Morgan in 2012, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless where he played Dylan McAvoy from 2013 to 2016. His work at YR won him an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2017. Burton’s departure from YR had left many to speculate a return to GH could be around the corner. Jason is currently being portrayed by Billy Miller so it remains to be seen just who Burton will be playing. Is a Tale of Two Jasons in the works?

Burton rose to soap fame on GH as Quartermaine golden-boy-turned-hitman Jason Morgan Quartermaine from 1991-2012. As the youngest son of supercouple Drs. Alan and Monica Quartermaine, Jason was destined to follow in his parents’ footsteps into the medical field. That is until tragedy struck when a car accident caused by his drunken half-brother AJ lead to catastrophic brain injury that would forever change Jason.  Because of the brain damaged suffered from he accident, Jason morphed into his new persona, Jason Morgan, an emotionally distant hitman for mob boss Sonny Corinthos. Burton won an Emmy in 1997 for Outstanding Supporting Actor for the role.

Editor’s Note: Burton was a valuable leading man for GH during his tenure as Jason but Miller has garnered a following for his version of the character as well. Not a lot is known yet about what fans can expect but this news is already generating a lot of buzz online. Whether this will help GH boost its ratings like Days of our Live’s The Two Romans and One Life to Live’s The Tale of Two Todds did for their perspective shows will depend on the quality of writing.
