Gays of our Lives: Jack (Finally) Gets His Man on ‘Shortland Street’

4

Welcome to a new edition of Gays of Our Lives.  We’ve got a lot for you this week….

  • Jack finally gets his man on Shortland Street when he and Cam become a couple.  But the messy past between them could doom the relationship before it gets off the ground.
  • On Rownd a Rownd, David is green with envy when Rhys starts dating another man.   David’s ensuing anger, however, could have Dani paying a nasty price.
  • Riverdale debuted last week.  And while it’s a terrific and fun addition to the teen soap canon, there is one thing that makes it a bummer for me.  What is it?
  • The Halcyon gets hotter as Toby is forced on a blind date by his mother, leading to an intimate encounter with Adil that could be life changing for them both.
  • Plus, Dom is betrayed by Isaac on Holby City.

All this and much, much more!

PICKS AND PANS

Neighbours  (Australia)

This show still hasn’t figured out how to successfully write for Aaron.

The one thing this baby storyline has shown: Paige has slept with or nearly slept with a lot of hot guys over the past year.

Mark, Jack, Tyler, Leo and a few randoms.  Lucky girl.  But these folks kill me demanding to know who her baby daddy is.  So rude!  It’s none of your business, people! I don’t know why David and Paige would assume the baby would look Japanese. After all, Paige is white and David is half-white.  Genetics can be a funny thing.  The baby may not look Japanese at all.

I don’t know about Australia, but in the US when your toilets are backed up you have to close the restaurant immediately.  That’s a major health hazard.

This wombat story is stupid.  The show is still doing these silly business stories for Aaron.  I guess he has this romance with David going, but that’s clearly on the slow burn.  In the meantime, Aaron should be dating.  He’s a hot dude.  He should have no trouble finding an openly gay man to hook up with while David works out his issues.

Jack, Amy and Aaron bought Paige and David’s story a bit too quickly.  But at least Leo doesn’t look like he believes it. Aaron mentioning Nate has me wondering if Nate was coming back since the show says one of Aaron’s ex-lovers was returning.  I hope not.  He and Aaron were so boring together.  I’d rather it be a man we haven’t met before.  Aaron talked about some guy who dumped him when he first came onto the show.  How about that guy?  Just not Nate, please.

EastEnders  (U.K.)

The show a really good job with the actual filming of the bus crash itself.  That was very well done.  And while I’m not sure I believe that they could have lifted that bus off of Martin, it was a cool moment.

I see gay Tom the paramedic is still around.  Reminds me that Johnny never did call him.  And he still has no story.

Emmerdale  (U.K.)

Hey, they can be romantic. Wow.

I like DS Wise.  I really wish they’d go there instead of another round of Chas and Paddy.  Besides, he’s going to wind up back with Rhona once she realizes her boyfriend Pierce is insane.  Chas is just a fourth party in this story.

That was a nice moment in the bar with Aaron and Robert.  We don’t get to see them being romantic often because there’s usually so much drama in their relationship so it was kind of sweet.  A nice change.

Finn needs to realize that Kasim wants nothing to do with him and it’s not about Aaron beating him up.  I’m glad Aaron pointed that out.  I did like Finn saying he hopes Aaron doesn’t go to jail… even if he does deserve it.  Cuz he kinda does.

Holby City  (U.K.)

You need to kick this one to the curb, Dom.

I don’t watch Casualty regularly so I had no idea that Jez was bisexual.  When I watched the recent arc with Seb they never mentioned it so I was surprised to see him in here, flirting with Dom — and sleeping with Isaac.  That come on scene in the bar with Jez and Isaac was pretty hot, I gotta say.

Poor Dom.  He should know by now that Isaac is a manipulative control freak who gets off on making Dom feel bad about himself.  It’s not the first time he’s done something like this and it won’t be the last.

However, I agree with Isaac that despite what happened, Dom should have gone on that trip.  It was a foolish mistake in regards to his career that he’ll probably regret and not just because Isaac cheated on him. I also have no doubt that when Dom finds out about the infidelity (and I’m sure Isaac will make sure Dom finds out), Isaac will blame Dom and say Dom ‘made’ him do it.  That’s just the kind of mind games Isaac likes to play.

WHAT I LOVED AND HATED ABOUT RIVERDALE, NEXT PAGE!

Anthony D. Langford
I watch a lot of television, probably too much. But can you really watch too much TV? I've yet to find out. Anyway, I especially love TV when they give us positive portrayals of gays, something that has gotten better but we're still fighting for. I've written about gays in television for many years first at the much missed After Elton, then New Now Next and now at TV Source. It's kind of a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing it with you.

  1. So I just watched Shortland Street today …. Looks like they are spinning a story for Leroy now.

P.s. I don’t know what you said or did Anthony, but someone started uploading Le Chalet on YouTube. I am so happy, so ….Thank you! You are amazing :)

  2. Riverdale: Well, a new guilty pleasure. It certainly is interesting that Josie and the Pussycats are all Black in this one. And their music style is a little interesting. Of course Robin Givens as Josie’s mother is interesting, too. Cole Sprouse actually surprised me as Jughead, though it looks like his comic love of hamburgers is virtually all but absent so far. As for Kevin, yeah…they do need to step up his game a bit, because he reminds me of George Smith on Hollyoaks (when he first appeared) with his attitude thus far. Mind you, this was FAR different from Kevin Keller in the comics (up until the revamp), who was less of a queen and more of a strait laced kid. A shame, too, because Berlanti could’ve used that version to good measure.

  3. That’s Cam and Jack from “Shortland Street”.

  4. From what show is the hot couple in the cover?
