Best and Worst of 2008: Soap Opera Edition

0

Dynamic Duo
Guiding Light’s Daniel Cosgrove (Bill) and Marcy Rylan (Lizzie)– These two actors transcend the lackluster writing on Guiding Light. Their chemistry is explosive and quite frankly, is one of few bright spots on the soap.

General Hospital’s Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli)– Kirsten and Bradford have a great rapport. The friendship between these two is one that is rarely seen today on soaps. Probably the only thing that comes close is Henry & Vienna on ATWT (and they’re romantically involved). We’ve seen that Maxie’s bad girl exterior is only a facade, and that Spinelli brings out the best in her.  He is probably the only person who accepts the former “bad blonde one” for who she is. Maxie wants to be a better person when she’s around Spinelli, whereas he just wants her to be herself.  Granted Spinelli is in love with Maxie, but their friendship comes above anything else.

Their wacky hijinx adventures is probably the only kind of wacky hijinx that General Hospital well. Whether it’s hunting down the Text Message Killer, investigating the devious Dr. Ian Devlin, or averting the latest catastrophe at Crimson, Kirsten and Bradford give 110% and make it worthwhile for their fans.

Special Mention: This was a hard category for our panel to decide on, there was one special someone who had this to say. “The Dynamic Duo of 2008? How about my TV and remote…for both NOT breaking as I threw one at the other constantly watching DAYS.”

Runner Ups: General Hospital’s Jane Elliot (Tracy) & Stuart Damon (Alan), Days of Our Lives’ Arianne Zuker (Nicole) & James Scott (EJ), and As The World Turns’ Kelley Menighan-Hensley (Emily) and Billy Magnussen (Casey).

Best Couple
Robin and Patrick fans waited and waited for their payoff and after 3 years, they finally got it. This past year Robin and Patrick finally admitted they belong together and were blessed with a bouncing baby girl Emma, and 2 weddings!

After the rough year Robin and Patrick have had, it wasn’t looking like these two would work through their problems, but they did. Now with Baby Emma (and her amazing mini-mohawk) here, it opens a new chapter in the lives of Scrubs. It also brings a new set of issues this couple will have to overcome, but with a little luck, a strong relationship, and the backing of one of General Hospital’s most loyal and enthusiastic fan base, we pray they will survive the stroke of Guza’s pen. Many ‘Scrub’ fans rejoiced, yet others are waiting for the other shoe to drop. In 2008, Scrubs takes the honors of receiving the soap couple who got the Best Payoff for 2008. Enjoy it Scrubbies!

Runner Ups:Brad & Katie (ATWT), Luke and Noah (ATWT), Phyllis & Nick (Y&R), Zach & Kendall (AMC)
