Chad Brannon (ex-Zander) will make an appearance on ABC’s General Hospital in December.
After a 5 year absence, Daytime Emmy winner, Chad Brannon will reprise his role as Zander Smith on ABC’s General Hospital, according to Soap Opera Digest. Chad left his role of former drug dealer and mob errand boy in March 2004. Confirming the report of his return, Chad tweeted a statement, “So about that whole dead being dead thing…yes it’s true. I will be appearing on General Hospital again. It will air sometime in mid Dec!.”
Brannon returns to the show for one episode as part of the exit story being told for Natalia Livingston’s character Rebecca Shaw. Chad debuted as a recast for Zander Smith on September 1, 2000, taking over the role from Marc Brett.
Zander came onto the scene as a drug dealer, working for mobster, Joseph Sorel and eventually kidnapped Emily Bowen Quartermaine (then played by Amber Tamblyn), and ultimately falling in love with her. Many fans quickly became intoxicated by Chad and Amber’s amazing chemistry and fell in love with their blossoming love story. Zander and Emily’s love story came to a crashing end when the two teenagers were on their way to Canada and the bus they were riding in was in an accident, leaving Emily paralyzed from the waist down. To give her the care she needed the Quartermaine family and Zander decided to send Emily to a rehabilitation center for her to recover. The storyline’s direction was written due to Amber Tamblyn leaving the role of Emily, but after a year, the role was recast with Natalia Livingston. In 2003, Emily returned to Port Charles and reunited with Zander, who by then was working for mobster Sonny Corinthos, but never had fallen out of love with her.
Zander’s heart was crushed when he found Emily and Nikolas Cassadine at his cottage making love in front of the fireplace, but he drowned his broken heart at Jake’s and found comfort with Emily’s best friend Elizabeth. After their one night of hot passion, Elizabeth couldn’t tear herself away from her long time friendship with Jason Morgan to give a damn about Zander. Zander falling deeper into dispair, joined the ranks of Faith Roscoe’s organization as an errand boy and her muscle. Emily continued her relationship with Nikolas, even though she married Zander during her bout with breast cancer. The two divorced but an increase in Zander’s obsession with Emily eventually resulted in him kidnapping her and taking her to the cottage they shared when they were married. After a long stand-off between Zander and the PCPD, he agreed to release Emily. With Emily standing beside him, he stepped out onto the porch of the cottage and reached for a gun he didn’t have. The PCPD fired on him and shot him, he died in Emily’s arms.
After leaving the role of Zander, Chad has kept himself busy. He appeared on HBO’s hit series Deadwood (2006), CBS’ prime time series Cold Case (2006), and NBC’s hit prime time series, Friday Night Lights in 2007. In addition to his appearances on primetime, he has also lended his voice to a documentary called Moonshine and Lost Odyssey the video game, as Tolten in 2007. His voice can also be heard on The Family Guy, American Dad and other FOX commercials for Animation Domination, Simpsons, King of the Hill, Glee, So You Think You Can Dance, also, Messin with Sasquatch, a beef jerky commercial for Jack Link’s Beef Jerky.
Chad returns to General Hospital for one episode, airing in mid-December.
