Valentine’s Day: The 14 Couples We Love

2

Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders

Robin Scherbatsky and Barney Stinson – How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

Even though they aren’t together right now, Barney once said it best, “We’re both afraid of commitment, but we also can’t live without each other.” When the series began Barney was a womanizer with severe commitment phobia, but has grown into a man accepting of his feelings and willing to lay everything on the line for the woman he loves. Robin is terrified of getting back together with Barney because she’ll either A) get everything she ever wanted with him or B) get her heart broken again.

Barney and Robin get one another – from cigar smoking to picking up men and women to the lies they force themselves to live. Despite the fact that they’re grappling with severe cases of commitment phobia, they’re so dependent on one another that they couldn’t survive without each other. She calls him out on his sleazy, womanizing ways and he sees through the hardened exterior that hides her vulnerable side. They recognize one another’s issues and help carry each other’s baggage all around New York City. It may sound cliché but they accept one another for who they are and make each other better people.

This exchange sums up their beautiful train wreck of a relationship perfectly:

Robin: I’m such a mess. Why do you even like me?
Barney: I guess, because you’re as messed up as I am.

We’ve RSVP’d for their wedding and it doesn’t even have a date yet.

  2. Agree with pretty much all of them (from the shows I watch), although when it comes to The Vampire Diaries I’m firmly rooting for Damon and Elena.
