Next week, NBC’s longest running daytime drama, Days of our Lives, will make television history with the wedding of Will Horton (Guy Wilson) and Jackson ‘Sonny’ Kiriakis (Freddie Smith).

TVSource Magazine has a sneak peek of the nuptials between Will and Sonny and photos from the episodes. While All My Children had the first gay marriage between two women in soaps, Days of our Lives is having the first gay marriage between two men.

Starting on April 1, three consecutive episodes, the fan-favorite couple Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis (affectionately deemed “WilSon”) will tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony presided by a surprise officiant. In 2012 Will (then played by two-time Daytime Emmy winner Chandler Massey) came to terms with his sexuality in powerful episodes that had audiences around the world captivated and rooting for the character to find love.

The slow building romance of the beloved couple has captured the hearts and minds of viewers far and wide culminating in their engagement earlier this year. With great surprises in store and excitement building around this momentous occasion, audiences will be blown away by the powerful performances to come.

  2. It was beautiful wedding and certainly worth watching! Days of our Lives really outdid themselves with this wedding, and the love and care that was shown throughout the telling of this beautiful love story of Will and Sonny.

  3. […] TV Source Magazine reports WilSon “will tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony presided by a surprise officiant”—Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), by the looks of it. This marks the first same-sex wedding between two men on daytime television, something of a milestone even today. […]

  4. As a gay guy in my late 40s, I have to admit I still feel a little uncomfortable with two grooms. Not because I think gay marriage is wrong or inappropriate, only because I’m still not *used* to seeing it, and seeing mainstream society being comfortable with it. For this reason I think the Wilson wedding is very important for American society, not only the portrayal of the gay couple but also the show of wholehearted community support for the union. It sends out a message and image to the public that says, “This is OK and a good thing.”. And that’s the message many of us, younger and older generationers, want and need to hear,to confirm equal marriage not only in concept but in everyday representational practice.

  5. The wedding is going to be an unforgettable event! Attendance is free on NBC TV!!!

  7. I am so looking forward to seeing Will and Sonny getting married. This love story has been so beautiful to watch since these two characters met in June 2011 and became friends and slowly became closer throughout the next year and a half to finally admitting to each other that they were in love. They have been through alot so far (with the pregnancy with Gabi to the ordeal with Nick and the shooting/birth of Arianna and the bumps along the way) to finally see them getting engaged and now the wedding is happening next week. This is going to be a wonderful event and we get a front row seat.
