I know this story is so predictable, but I am really enjoying it. Rhys and David have great chemistry, which makes you overlook that we’ve seen this storyline about a million times. But doing it on the couch where you made out with your girlfriend is just trashy behavior. Get a hotel, guys.
I figured that Rhys would grow quickly tired of being David’s secret boyfriend. But will Rhys go back to David again? Probably. The issue I still have with this story though is that the show isn’t articulating why David is staying with Dani. She’s a nice girl, but David clearly does not love her. If it’s because of his career working for Dani’s father, I would understand that. The show just needs to let me know David’s motivation. It isn’t in the writing thus far.
Shortland Street (New Zealand)
Not much going on for the guys as of late. They’re happy and on this show that means no airtime. When they are fighting and breaking up, then you’ll see a lot of them. That’s how this show works. Well, it’s how a lot of soaps work, I guess. But as someone else noted, no one stays together long on this soap. That’ll probably include Jack and Cam. I did like Drew encouraging Jack and Cam to go upstairs and have sex. Thanks, bro!
But at least we don’t have to worry about Cam wanting Kylie again. When she announced her marriage to Frank, we didn’t even see Cam’s reaction. I don’t see why she rushed into marrying Frank though. They barely know each other and her history should teach her about hooking up with guy with sketchy pasts.
BTW, I don’t care if Frank was off getting married, if you don’t show up for work for a week with no phone call, you’re fired. Point blank. I can’t believe he kept his job. In my world, that wouldn’t happen. Then again, my world doesn’t have any sexy Aussie bartenders. Sigh.
Wouldn’t listening to loud music just right after you’ve had ear surgery to repair hearing loss be a bad thing?
The Halcyon (U.K.)
I guess the question is now if the show will be back for season 2. There hasn’t been any word yet, but let’s hope so. The season (series?) finale was well done and suspenseful and thankfully Toby and Adil came out it alive despite a bombing, a murder and a suicide attempt. Speaking of which, I wasn’t pleased with the show’s hoary cliche of the suicidal gay. Even though Adil survived and Toby realized he still loved him, that was not a plot point I needed. Why not have Adil endangered by the bombing, Toby rescues him and realizes he wants to be with him? Oh, well.
The acting was very good, especially by Olivia Williams as she found out the truth about Lucian and murdered him when he threatened her kids. I loved it when Garland came in to see Lucian’s dead body and immediately told her how to deal with what had happened. He’s been there before. I guess if there is a season 2, Garland and Olivia will embark on a messy romance and deal with the fallout from the murder.
Also, now that she knows that Toby has a secret about his sex life, I can’t imagine it won’t be long before she learns about Toby’s affair with Adil and will not be pleased. I can see her strong arming Toby into a marriage to keep things a secret.
Let’s just hope the show comes back. I did enjoy it for the most part. I love the time period and backdrop. And the music was awesome. Toby and Adil are a sweet (though somewhat hard to buy) couple and I’d like to see more of Matt Ryan’s Joe, my favorite character. I still don’t get why Emma was torn between him and Freddie. Freddie’s not even in Joe’s league, IMO.
The Haves and The Have Nots (U.S.)
Jeffery needs to work on his afterglow banter.
Of course Jeffrey and Justin go from having sex to punching each other and pulling out guns. So typical. Two steps forward with this show, one step back.
But I did like Justin’s “You’ve changed me and now I just wanna cuddle” speech.
Veronica is still delusional about Jeffery’s sexuality? That talk with Melissa was just pure insanity. Girl, give it up.
So why did this show, again, ruin the cliffhanger for the week. I don’t get setting things up and giving things away before the next episode even airs?

My guess is that Diane is Scott’s mother.
I actually thought they might be going with Cam and Sass at one point. I really hope that they let Cam and Jack be together for awhile. I am not fond of the pecks when they kiss, but they have chemistry and are great as a couple.
Do you mean that both actors who play Rhys and David out and gay in real life?
I also think that Kylie’s marriage to Frank is all about Drew. Drew and Kylie clearly are in love with each other, but determined to play the “just friends” card which will end up hurting both Harper and Frank. Drew proposed to Harper right after he and Kylie accidentally declared their love for each other. Kylie got involved with Frank soon after also and her quickie marriage to Frank feels like she is striking back at Drew for hurting her and proposing to Harper.
I can’t even with Gwyneth at this point. But what irks me with this plotline, above what you’ve mentioned, is how extremely DUMB AS FUCK Sion is being portrayed, much more than usual. Sion I actually liked once, despite his idiosyncracies. Now…his character is extremely beyond redemption, and this plotline serves as little more than a reminder as to why.
Yeah, you’re right, total brain fart here between Shortie and Neighbours. LOL
Did you mean out of spite for Drew? They have a weird relationship and she’s always been a bit put out by Harper. I don’t think she ever had any deep feelings for Cam, he was just a bit of fun.
Is Rhys supposed to be a teenager? I only started watching the story recently, so maybe I’ve missed something, but he runs his own garage and refers to a previous boyfriend as a ‘partner’ which to me marks him as older. I’ve always assumed he was mid to late 20’s on the show?
Now they are trying to play it like Sion knew all along that Gwyneth was just looking for real estate. Ugh. The whole stupid plotline bothered me from day one. It was just so contrived.
Oh, I will just hop in bed with the psychotic ex-lover of my psychotic ex-wife/psychotic ex-wife of my psychotic ex-brother-in-law/psychotic killer of my fairly normal other ex-brother-in-law. And my loving gay son will see her as the evil Snuffleupagus she is but I will tell him I won’t believe him. And I put her name on all the property deeds because she is totally straight, trustworthy and sane. Then and only then at our wedding will I pull the rug out from under her.
Yeah, that all makes sense. Great master plan, Sion. I hope she fillets him into cutlets and then Ed snaps again and shoved her in the deep fryer as Britt’s chip shop.
On Shortland Street, I would say there’s a pretty good reason Kylie got with Frank. Kylie’s shallow, and would hook up with hot guys, no matter how sketchy his past (Cam being somewhat the exception.) The badder, the better for her, in some aspects, and Frank is no different. The reason Cam showed indifference to Kylie’s marriage to Frank was simple: he’s moved on, as he’s pointed out quite a few times. The thing I do like about Shortie is its subtlety in storytelling, even though it’s cyclic at times, much like Neighbours.
Speaking of Neighbours,I thought Aaron mentioned about being a good father (and/or uncle) someday a few times in the past, especially when it came to him laying out Russell when he was around. Though I can agree that it was ridiculous that David went back in the closet just because Aaron was dating someone else.Though if the eps playing this week (so far) are any indication, there’s a reason behind that as well…
It is fairly obvious why David is staying with Dani. He has Daddy issues. He moved to Menai Bridge to be with his father and half-siblings. Then his dad up and leaves town. He took to Wyn because of Wyn’s status in the community. And he gains favor with the boss by dating his ugly duckling of a daughter. David is on the shallow side and needs that preppy/flashy lifestyle. So he stays in the company of those that can give him that. But what he really wants is the dirty mechanic boy. (I mean what it is with all the gay mechanics on soaps. It’s such a stereotype.)
Watch David’s character when Wyn is displeased or angry with him, like after the elevator or decorator incidents. David reacts like a scolded children who has disappointed a parent. Oddly enough, the actors that play Rhys and David are only a couple of
years apart in age; even though the show tries to play them as a
teenager and a supposedly more mature man.
And they are getting a hotel, tomorrow night!
Thanks for the EastEnders reminder, because I totally forgot that was Jamie Nichols as the reporter…-LMAO-
For POTV, I have to agree that Sion is an insufferable self-righteous (and hypocritical) tosser. That said, though, none of his sons (Iolo included) were exactly angels, either – remember Huw with the cult, and Macs and his troubles (though considering it was Scott who ultimately put Macs in that much of a tailspin, Macs’ transgressions were forgivable in that case.) Gwyneth I have absolutely no love or remorse for, period.
As for Hollyoaks, I like the new Joel myself, considering he has more bite than the last. Though so far, I still am on the fence with Bart’s return (especially considering his drunken role with Katy), though I still have love for Jonny Clarke.
Aaron and Robert are more interesting to me separately than together, and the Aaron prison story could provide some good character development. My hope is that Robert has a story, too, and doesn’t just pass time until Aaron gets out. Rebecca is a good partner in crime for him, but I’ve lost all interest in Chrissie. In retrospect, the show should have had her punished for her role in the plane crash.
As for Hollyoaks, yes Warren is hot. But this new Joel is hotter.
On EastEnders last week, the actor who played Lee on Holby City last year popped up as the reporter interviewing Denise.
On People of the Valley, Sion is so insufferably self-righteous that it’s no wonder his other sons won’t speak to him. It was just a few months ago that he told Iolo he wouldn’t be at his (Iolo’s) wedding because it would disrupt his (Sion’s) self-indulgent pity party after he lost his status in the community when he got exposed for stealing that money. His objection to William was mostly because of William’s profession and Sion’s fear that he would be caught out. To be fair, his objection to Alun was that he was married – a legitimate concern. Gwyneth has threatened Iolo a couple of times and even has a criminal record, and her complete lack of charm makes me wonder why anyone tolerates her.
Much as I’m always bracing myself for it (Shorty after all) I will be gutted if they break up Cam and Jack any time soon. I don’t mind relationship angst, but a definitive break would suck. The characters work so well together(in every capacity), the actors have such great chemistry, it took months to actually get them to this point and there’s already so much mileage in the relationship. It would be a real waste:(
