It’s our favorite time of year: Upfront Season! The TV networks are preparing to unveil their 2015-16 schedules to advertisers beginning May 11 and that means we’re finally going to know which of our shows are renewed and canceled and which pilots we have to look forward to next season.
On Friday, NBC kicked things off by announcing pickups for three new drama series: Chicago Med, Blindspot and Heartbreaker.
Chicago Med joins the Chicago Fire/Chicago P.D. family (both shows have already been renewed) and aired a preview during the April 7 episode of Chicago Fire. Hailing from Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, Chicago Med focuses on characters who work at the Chicago Medical hospital. The cast includes S. Epatha Merkerson, Yaya DaCosta, Laurie Holden and Oliver Platt.
Blindspot centers on a beautiful woman, with no memories of her past, who is found naked in Times Square with her body fully covered in intricate tattoos. Her discovery sets off a vast and complex mystery that immediately ignites the attention of the FBI, who begin to follow the road map on her body to reveal a larger conspiracy of crime while bringing her closer to discovering the truth about her identity. Jaimie Alexander, Sullivan Stapleton, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ukweli Roach and Ashley Johnson star. The series hails from Martin Gero, Greg Berlanti and Mark Pellington.
Heartbreaker is inspired by the life of Dr. Kathy Magliato and is based on her book, Heart Matters. The series is described as a medical soap that follows the outspoken Alex Panttiere, one of the rare female heart transplant surgeons. Alex brings an innovative eye to treating patients week to week while also balancing the complications of her professional and romantic life. Melissa George, Dave Annable, Shelley Conn, Don Hany, Maya Erskine, Jamie Kennedy, Joshua Leonard, J. Louis Miller, Rudy Martinez and D.L. Hughley star in the drama from Jill Gordon, Amy Brennerman, Brad Silberling, Susan Carlson, Eric Carlson, Kelly Meyer and Kathy Magliato.
