A slew of Star Trek universe announcements were made at SDCC. Ruaridh Aldington will be a series regular in the upcoming second season of Starfleet Academy playing Keats, a young alien our cadets encounter on an away mission who possesses a mysterious backstory. When the cadets make the risky decision to bring him back to Starfleet Academy, they realize he’s a wanted man, and his life is in danger. A sneak peek at the rest of the new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was revealed. The second season (30 episodes, three minutes each) of the original animated YouTube-first series, Star Trek: Scouts, will debut this year on Star Trek Day (September 8). As the first preschool extension of the Star Trek franchise, the series follows three 8-year-old friends, JR, Sprocket and Roo, as they train to become future Starfleet Explorers by going on epic, out-of-this-world missions that push them to “discover, grow and boldly go!”
Cyberpunk sci-fi series Neuromancer will premiere January 22, 2027 on Apple TV. The series is based on the 1984 book by William Gibson. It follow a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.
Carrie will premiere October 7 on Prime Video. Misfit high schooler Carrie White has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
Hulu has ordered three extended length Futurama specials, which are currently in production. The first of the three specials will be Xmas themed and will launch in 2027. Details on the following specials are forthcoming. Season 14 of Futurama premieres August 3 with two episodes on hulu. Brace yourselves… The future is about to get a whole lot stranger! It’s a non-stop onslaught of swaggering space pirates, lab-grown meats, sexy scams… plus the shocking return of Dr. Zoidberg’s lost love! You didn’t see that coming, prior to being told about it just now!
Adventure Time: Side Quests has been renewed for a second season. New episodes will premiere this fall on Disney+ and hulu.
A Bob’s Burgers holiday short titled “On the Fort Day of Christmas” will premiere on hulu this year. A record-breaking Christmas snowstorm means one thing to the Belcher kids – a record-breaking Christmas snow fort. Regular episodes will premiere on Fox in 2027.

Family Guy will once again be doing Halloween and Holiday specials on hulu. Kieran Culkin will be in the Halloween special as the Devil. Brian and Stewie find themselves in Hell – not an annoying day, the actual underworld – paying for 24 seasons’ worth of bad behavior. When they manage to annoy even the Devil himself, they end up in charge. In the Holiday special, “The Peter Clause,” it’s Christmas in Quahog, and Peter and the guys compete to become the town’s official Santa. Peter loses, and he can either process his disappointment in a mature manner, or give fans a memorable episode of Family Guy. Thankfully, he chooses option number two. Regular episodes will premiere on Fox in 2027.
Netflix has ordered an adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s “Happy Old Year.” It is an autobiographical novel centered around the accident that left the author quadriplegic at age 20. Written with a confessional tone and colloquial language, Paiva delivers a surprisingly ironic account of a dramatic turning point in his life, breaking stereotypes surrounding disability while addressing universal themes of youth and coming of age.
Tom Morris Jr., the former co-host and analyst on the police documentary series Live PD and former America’s Most Wanted Senior Correspondent, will reunite with On Patrol: Live host and executive producer Dan Abrams and co-host and analyst Sgt. Sean “Sticks” Larkin starting Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1. All three appeared together on Live PD. Morris Jr. brings decades of experience in crime analysis and on-air hosting and correspondent work, helping audiences better understand public safety and law enforcement.
Season two of Dark Matter premieres August 28 on Apple TV.
