MTV is boosting its recurring players for the upcoming super-sized season of the hit dramedy “Awkward” in the form of “Glee’s” Nolan Funk and “Deadzone” alum Anthony Michael Hall.
Hall, who rose to fame in the cult classic “The Breakfast Club,” will play Mr. Hart, a sadistic creative writing teacher that pushes his students out of their comfort roles. Though he’s hard on his students, there’s a method behind his madness. He’s expected to play an important role during the third season.
26-year old Funk will play a Collin James, a new student to Palos Hills described as a “confident new prep school transfer.” The Canada native currently recurs as Hunter Clarrington, the new leader of the Warblers on FOX’ “Glee.”
“Awkward” ranked as a one of top cable series on Thursday nights and draws 1.8 million total viewers each week. The series, in both season one and two, was the #1 show across all TV in its time period among W12-34 and Teens. In season two, “Awkward” was up six percent from its previous season.
The series stars Ashley Rickards as Jenna, Beau Mirchoff as Matty, Molly Tarlov as Sadie, Jillian Rose Reed as Tamara, Brett Davern as Jake, Nikki DeLoach as Lacey, Desi Lydic as Valerie, Jessica Lu as Ming, Mike Faiola as Kevin and Greer Grammer as Lissa.
“Awkward” was created by Lauren Lungerich. Lungerich and Erin Ehrlich serve as executive producers.
