Comic Con 2013: What’s next for ‘The Originals’?

1

On Saturday, the cast of The CW’s upcoming series The Originals took the stage at San Diego’s Comic Con International. Executive producer and showrunner Julie Plec joined the show’s stars Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Claire Holt (Rebekah), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) and Charles Michael Davis (Marcel) to talk about what’s next for The Vampire Diaries’ spinoff.

The panel opened with the video below, which is a sizzle reel from the show’s pilot that aired in April as an episode of TVD. The video includes extra footage from a version of the pilot that was shown to executives as well as the press. This version includes the first glimpse of Davina (Danielle Campbell), who will play an important role in the show. Plec didn’t want to give too much away when it came to the character, citing that she would be one of the mysteries of Season 1 and her story would be explained early in the season.

What else can fans expect when the show premieres in October? For one thing, it will have a new first episode. This one will tell the story from Elijah’s point of view as he heads to New Orleans to find out what’s going on with his brother. Plec promised some of the missing scenes that viewers didn’t get to see would be incorporated into this episode.

Rebekah will still be in Mystic Falls when the show premieres and she will appear in the first episode of TVD to wrap up her story with Matt (Zach Roerig). Rebekah heads to New Orleans in episode 2 of The Originals and while she makes some of her reasons clear, she does have a hidden agenda.

The show will also dive into Marcel’s backstory, including how he met Klaus and how he rose to power. Flashbacks will play a role throughout the series as will Hayley’s pregnancy. Plec insists that there will not be anything romantic happening between Klaus and Hayley, but they will share a bond over the baby. Again, Plec didn’t want to give too many details away about what kind of supernatural form the baby will take.

Check out the trailer below and then hit the comments and tell us what you’d like to see happen with the characters.

The Originals premieres Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 8/7c on The CW.
