A League of Their Own premieres on Prime Video August 12 with all eight episodes. The series evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball, both inside the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and outside of it. The show follows Carson and Max and a new ensemble of sharp and hilarious characters as they carve their paths toward the field, along the way finding their teams and themselves.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan returns for a new season August 14. Set in the early 1990’s, the third series in the “Power” Universe tells the origin story of fan favorite character “Kanan Stark” and his entry into the criminal world through his mother, who ruthlessly runs the family’s drug empire. As we enter season two, Raquel ‘Raq’ Thomas has gained control over the city’s drug trade, but her son is slipping away. Kanan Stark returns to Queens uncertain of his future with the family business, and because of Detective Howard’s lingering secret, he’s even more uncertain of his past. Kanan searches for the truth while Raq boldly expands the business into hostile Mafia territory. Lou-Lou has other plans that revolve around his emerging record label, but Raq isn’t about to let his side hustle get in the way of her expansion. Although Marvin remains Raq’s loyal soldier, he struggles to earn Jukebox’s forgiveness and become the father she deserves. The ties that bind this family are becoming undone, but Raq will stop at nothing to hold them together.
Pantheon premieres September 1 on AMC+. The animated sci-fi drama is based on a collection of short stories by award-winning author Ken Liu. The series is centered on a bullied teen who receives mysterious help from someone online: a stranger soon revealed to be her recently deceased father, David, whose consciousness has been uploaded to the Cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan. David is the first of a new kind of being – an “Uploaded Intelligence” or “UI” – but he will not be the last, as a global conspiracy unfolds that threatens to trigger a new kind of world war. The voice cast includes Daniel Dae Kim, Katie Chang, Paul Dano, Aaron Eckhart, Rosemarie DeWitt, Taylor Schilling, and William Hurt.
HGTV has renewed Ugliest House in America for a third season. The series follows Retta on a tour of five U.S. regions. Each episode will capture her entertaining walkthroughs and LOL commentary on unsightly properties nominated by homeowners who believe their place is one of the worst in the country. Ultimately, the “ugliest house” will get a stunning $150,000 renovation by HGTV star Alison Victoria. The new six episode season will premiere in early 2023. Season two is currently airing.
Three Busy Debras has been canceled after two seasons on adult swim. The comedy series was likely due to the recent merger and creation of Warner Bros. Discovery which has seen many series canceled in recent months. The live-action comedy was created by and starred Sandy Honig, Mitra Jouhari, and Alyssa Stonoha.
HBO has ordered the limited series The Palace starring Kate Winslet. The series tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel.
Peacock has ordered an ancient Rome gladiatorial epic series titled Those About to Die. The series is inspired by the nonfiction classic “Those About To Die” from acclaimed author Daniel Mannix. The series is a large-scale drama set within the spectacular, complex, and corrupt world of gladiatorial sports in Ancient Rome. The series introduces an ensemble of diverse characters across the many layers of Roman society where sports, politics, and business intersect and collide.
Fox has ordered comedy Animal Control to series. The workplace comedy will premiere at midseason. The news comes after the network passed on Cindy Snow which will be shopped. Casting for Animal Control will be announced later.
Patton Oswalt will make his directorial debut with his fourth Netflix comedy special We All Scream. Filmed at Paramount Theatre in Denver Colorado, Oswalt discusses what happens to our bodies as we get older, who he could have been had he just followed the list he created during the lockdown, the Baby Boomer’s last temper tantrum and much more. The special will premiere September 20.
NBC’s Family Game Fight! returns with two new episodes August 2 and August 7. Hosted by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, the series pits America’s funniest husband and wife against one another as they are “adopted” into a family of four competing for $100,000 in a series of fun-filled and larger-than-life games.
David Harbour and Pedro Pascal will star in the true crime limited series My Dentist’s Murder Trial. The HBO series is based on the 2017 New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation” by James Lasdun. The series tells the true story of Upstate New York dentist Dr. Gilberto Nunez, who was indicted for the death of his friend Thomas Kolman.
Adelaide Kane has joined the cast of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular. Kane will play a new resident at the hospital. She joins Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho and Midori Francis who also recently joined the cast.
Molly Burnett will recur in the upcoming season of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU. The new season kicks off September 22.
Benjamin Levy Aguilar has been promoted to series regular on Chicago P.D. The NBC series is heading into its tenth season. He plays Dante Torres who is a rookie. The new season premieres September 21.
The new season of HGTV’s Help! I Wrecked My House premieres August 27. HGTV star and home renovation expert Jasmine Roth will rescue more homeowners from their DIY fails in the ten episode season. Jasmine, who’s also a builder, designer and a busy mom, will solve major home renovation disasters with clever solutions, creating stunning and unique spaces for families.
Chris Cuomo is set to host a primetime show for NewsNation. The new show will begin this fall. CNN fired Cuomo following an investigation into his alleged dealings with his brother Andrew Cuomo when he faced accusations as Governor.
Limited series Echoes premieres on Netflix August 19. The seven episode series follows two identical twins, Leni and Gina, who share a dangerous secret. Since they were children, Leni and Gina have secretly swapped lives, culminating in a double life as adults: they share two homes, two husbands, and a child but everything in their perfectly choreographed world is thrown into disarray when one of the sisters goes missing.
Showtime’s Let the Right One In premieres October 7 streaming and on demand and October 9 on Showtime. The ten episode series is inspired by the original hit Swedish novel and film, the series centers on Mark and his daughter Eleanor, whose lives were changed 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive. With these emotionally charged and terrifying ingredients as a starting point,it will upend genre expectations, turning a naturalistic lens on human frailty, strength and compassion.
