HBO has renewed House of the Dragon for a third season. The renewal comes ahead of the second season premiere June 16. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.
Power Book IV: Force will be ending with its upcoming third season on Starz. The news comes as Power Book II: Ghost is airing its final season. The network continues to expand the Power universe with new series instead of sustaining series long term.
Adult Swim has ordered two new series and renewed one. Oh My God, Yes! A Series of Extremely Relatable Circumstances is a quarter-hour comedy that follows three best friends navigating the wild and dicey dating misadventures in South Central LA, circa 2102. A pilot episode for the series aired last year as part of Adult Swim’s pilot block, and is currently available to watch on Adult Swim.com. Ha Ha You Clowns, which began as an adult swim SMALLS series, follows three sweet natured brothers who, alongside their deeply caring father, embark on various adventures as they bond together in the wake of their mother’s passing. Inspired by suburban family TV shows of the past, this series mixes heartfelt emotions with surreal comedy. Smiling Friends, which is currently airing its second season, has been renewed for a third season. The series follows the employees of a small company dedicated to bringing happiness to a bizarre yet colorful world.
Netflix has canceled My Dad the Bounty Hunter after two seasons. The animated series followed close-knit siblings Lisa and Sean, who stow away on their dad’s latest work trip, hoping to finally get some quality time together. Little do they know Dad’s been keeping a secret from them – he’s actually the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy! Launched into the surprise space adventure of a lifetime, Lisa and Sean discover that their seemingly average dad’s job is anything but boring.
The eighth and final season of Elite premieres July 26 on Netflix. The arrival of siblings Emilia and Héctor Krawietz, leaders of Las Encinas alumni association, shake the school foundations. Influential, powerful, corrupt and corrupters, the Krawietz will scatter chaos wherever they go and will destroy the lives of those who fall prey to them. Only Omar will be able to face them and will be willing to do anything to see them fall, because in the end, they represent everything that has always been wrong in Las Encinas.
Mystery series Sunny premieres July 10 on Apple TV+. The series stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed
Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) has been renewed for a second season. The anime series which aired its finale today airs on Netflix. What do you get when you cross dungeon adventures and food manga? You get Delicious in Dungeon, where we find our troupe of adventurers on a mission to save their lost team member while figuring out how to survive on the food that the dungeon provides. Docuseries Down in the Valley premieres July 5 on Starz. Host Nicco Annan brings his charismatic energy to explore taboo topics often overlooked. MGM+ has ordered the Institute based on the novel by Stephen King. The eight episode series stars Ben Barnes as “Tim Jamieson” and Mary-Louise Parker as “Ms. Sigsby. When 12-year-old genius Luke Ellis is kidnapped, he awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did, and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.
Hunter Schafer has been cast in Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099. She joins Michelle Yeoh who will also star in the Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 followup.
Christina on the Coast returns July 11 on HGTV. Christina Hall and her team, including fellow designer and project manager James Bender, will transform outdated properties into dream homes by incorporating functionality and modern amenities, such as open floorplans, custom storage solutions, coveted indoor-outdoor living areas and spacious primary bedrooms featuring spa-inspired bathrooms. Production on School Spirits season two has begun. Maria Dizzia, who plays Maddie’s mom, Sandra Nears, will also return as a recurring guest star along with Patrick Gilmore as Mr. Anderson and Ian Tracey as Sheriff Baxter.
French animated series Totally Spies! has been renewed for an eighth season. The seventh season, a reboot after the series ended, will air later this year in the US.
Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal as host of the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, extending the popular host’s tenure at the beloved late-night staple through 2028. Fallon began his run at NBC in 1998 at Saturday Night Live and quickly became a fan-favorite during his time there. Coining musical bits and sketches that stand the test of time are still part of the broadcast to this day. Fallon’s work also includes Password and That’s My Jam.
The Icons That Built America premieres June 23 on The History Channel. The seven episode season explores the lives and careers of such individuals as daredevil Evel Knievel, martial artist and actor Bruce Lee, comedian Richard Pryor, radio host Howard Stern, hip-hop group N.W.A, and more and how their visionary ideas propelled them to become pillars in American culture. Through secondhand accounts and archival footage, the series aims to provide a more intimate portrait of these influential individuals and the surprising challenges faced when striving for success in their respective industry.
Those About to Die premieres July 18 on Peacock with all ten episodes. The epic drama series is set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told – the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most… blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.
Betty la Fea, The Story Continues premieres July 19 on Prime Video. Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello will reprise their roles from the original series. In the new series, a death in Ecomoda forces Betty to reconnect with her former coworkers, as well as with Armando, whom she is still married to but separated. She also reunites with her daughter, Mila, who has been studying fashion in New York and returns with the desire to work in Hugo’s workshop. Betty will have to rebuild her relationship with her daughter, while making important decisions that will impact her career, and decide whether to reconcile with Armando, who will do everything to win her back.
The Whirlwind premieres June 28 on Netflix. The season a high-stakes showdown for the vacant presidential seat, with Park Dong-ho and Jeong Su-jin locked in a deadly game of political chess. Tokyo Swindlers premieres July 25 on Netflix. Real estate prices in Tokyo have once again begun to skyrocket. Takumi Tsujimoto meets Harrison Yamanaka, the leader of a notorious group of real estate swindlers. Along with informer Takeshita, impostor recruiter Reiko, and legal advisor Goto, Takumi helps carry out real estate fraud as a negotiator. Their next target is the biggest yet: a 10 billion yen real estate scam. While the swindlers engage in a clever back-and-forth with land owners and major developers who are desperate to repurpose land, the police relentlessly pursue them. Meanwhile, both Takumi’s past and Harrison’s immoral methods are revealed gradually. The con artists take massive risks to make fraudulent deals as the police chase them. Can they pull off their 10 billion yen scheme?
Season two of docuseries How I Caught My Killer premieres July 18 on hulu.
