The CW had ordered a script that follows the life of Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw during high school.Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire will develop; Sex and the City writer and producer Amy B. Harris will likely serve as executive producer.
The female-skewing network committed to the project after hearing the pitch for it last Friday.
The series if picked up will be based on Candice Bushnell’s book, The Carrie Diaries, which explores the life of Carrie Bradshaw during her high school years. Bushnell’s first book in The Carrie Diaries was released last year, written from Carrie’s perspective, and focused on the future “it girl” during a relationship and rivalry. The second novel was published in April and covers Carrie’s first visit to New York.
Former show runner Michael Patrick King frowned upon the idea of a prequel during last month’s Television Critics Tour. “My Carrie Bradshaw started at 33, and I took her to 43. I didn’t even want to know who Carrie Bradshaw’s parents were because I thought she only existed in Manhattan.”
