Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Surface premieres July 29. The eight episode series follows Sophie, a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury that has left her with extreme memory loss, believed to be a result of a suicide attempt. As Sophie embarks on a quest to put the pieces of her life back together with the help of her husband and friends, she begins to question whether or not the truth she is told is in fact the truth she has lived. Through twists and turns and an unexpected love triangle, this sexy, elevated thriller asks: What if you woke up one day and didn’t know your own secrets? It is a story of self- discovery which contemplates if we are pre-programmed to become who we are, or if we choose our own identity.
Prime Video’s Forever Summer: Hamptons will premiere July 15. The first part of Spy x Family’s first season has wrapped with episode twelve. The season based on the manga of the same name will return for twelve more episodes in October. Carol Burnett is set to guest star in the second half of Better Call Saul‘s sixth and final season. The AMC series returns for its final six episodes July 11 with the series finale set for August 15. The final episodes will conclude the complicated journey and transformation of its compromised hero, Jimmy McGill, into criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.
FX has renewed The Old Man for a second season. The series starring Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow and Amy Brenneman is an adaptation of Thomas Perry’s bestselling novel. The series centers on “Dan Chase”, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past. The seven episode first season airs on Thursdays.
Andie MacDowell is returning to Hallmark Channel in The Way Home. MacDowell plays Del, matriarch of the Landry family and a pillar of the close-knit community of her small, Canadian farm town. She and her daughter Kat have been estranged from each other following tragic events that left their family forever changed and prompted Kat to move away. When Kat unexpectedly returns many years later with her teenage daughter whom Del has never met, the three generations of women embark on an enlightening journey to find their way back to each other and learn important lessons about their family’s past. The series will premiere in 2023.
Production has begun on the fourth season of Succession. In the ten episode fourth season, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.
Izzy Meikle-Small and Joey Phillips have been cast in the upcoming seventh season of Starz’s Outlander. The two will play siblings Rachel Hunter and Dr. Denzell Hunter, both of whom appeared in the book series.
Nick Zano and Shelley Hennig have been cast in Netflix’s Obliterated. The series comes from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald. The series is an eight episode, hour long action comedy.
With Rachel Maddow cutting back on The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, the network has announced that Alex Wagner will anchor the 9 hour Tuesdays through Fridays. Maddow will continue her show on Mondays at 9. The new series will premiere August 16.
Kristen Johnston will recur in the upcoming third season of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. The series tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work. The second season found the Gemstone family threatened by outsiders from both the past and present who wished to destroy their empire.
Alessandro Nivola has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s limited series The Big Cigar. Nivola joins André Holland in the six episode series telling the story of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton and his escape to Cuba.
NBC has set a primetime special, Ukraine: Answering the Call, featuring special guests, stars and musical icons benefiting the International Rescue Committee. The special aimed at educating, raising funds for those whose lives have been shattered by the crisis, and spreading awareness through the power of entertainment – an answer to the call from President Volodymyr Zelensky who has challenged Americans to use their voices to reach those who want peace. Zelensky will address Americans during the special and audiences will also hear remarks from Andriy Yermak, the Ukrainian Head of the Presidential Administration. The evening will include special appearances by José Andrés, Jon Batiste, Kristen Bell, Brandi Carlile, Brian Cox, Jeff Daniels, Vera Farmiga, Lena Headey, Alicia Keys, Simu Liu, Julianne Moore, Brad Paisley, Rosie Perez and more.
