Season two of Adults premieres August 27 on FXX. The ensemble comedy series is about a group of twenty-somethings in New York trying to be good people, despite being neither “good” nor “people” yet. Samir, Billie, Paul Baker, Issa and Anton share their meals, anxieties and, occasionally, toothbrushes. Over the eight-episode season, the housemates tackle capital-R Responsibility to varying degrees of success.
Neagley premieres September 16 on Prime Video. The Reacher spinoff starring Maria Sten will debut with all eight episodes. Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) is a private investigator in Chicago and former military protégé of Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.
The new cast of The Amazing Race will race around the world beginning with a special two-night premiere event, September 30 and October 1 on CBS. The series continues in its regular Wednesday time period on October 7. Host Phil Keoghan kicks off the Race from Vancouver, Canada, where he immediately surprises the teams with the first twist of the season: for the first time in series history there are 13 Express Passes in play. Each team receives one pass, forcing them to think strategically as they must play it by the end of leg six. Along the route, Racers will travel to five continents, nine countries, 13 cities and more than 25,000 miles, where they jump 200 feet off the catwalk of BC Stadium in Vancouver, walk with camels in Morocco and fly a paramotor through the skies of Laos.
Crew Girl premieres September 10 on Netflix. Sixteen-year-old Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau) was a rising star in single sculls rowing until a family scandal capsized her future. Forced to relocate with her mom (Jessica Paré) to the East Coast, Teagan starts over at the prestigious Easton Prep, where she’s not just an outcast but stuck aground – there’s no girls’ rowing team. Her only way to the water is to take the helm of the school’s notoriously dysfunctional boys’ varsity crew as their coxswain. Thrust into a world of old money and brutal competition, Teagan must find a way to lead a team that doesn’t want her and somehow bring them together. As she juggles her own rowing ambitions, the demands of the boys’ crew, and her family’s escalating complications, she also finds herself unexpectedly caught in the orbit of the team’s two most competitive rivals: the arrogant team captain, Josh Regis (Sam Braun), and the quiet but intensely driven underdog, Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark).
Season two of The Paper will premiere September 9 on Peacock with all ten episodes. The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it. In season two, after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards, Ned searches for a journalistic crusade, coming for a local private club and jeopardizing the paper, while he and Mare try to figure out their attraction, Esmeralda struggles to find her place, and the staff gradually mature as reporters.
The Lowdown returns for season two October 14 on FX. Tommy Lee Jones Betty Gilpin join the cast in the new season. The series follows the gritty exploits of citizen journalist Lee Raybon (Hawke), a self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian” whose obsession with the truth is always getting him into trouble. Lee lives and works in a rare books store tucked in the heart of Tulsa – a local refuge and unofficial community hub. While Lee’s no idealist, he’s fiercely committed to exposing corruption and unearthing the city’s hidden rot, even when it puts him at risk. As the season begins, Lee’s recent story on the life and untimely death of Dale Washberg (as seen in season one) earns him a local citizen journalist award. Unable to process things going well for a change, Lee self-medicates and, unsurprisingly, makes a less than stellar showing at the ceremony. But his wildly unfiltered speech grabs the attention of beautiful and brash public defender Ginger (Gilpin), herself a crusader for truth. Though uncommonly immune to his charms, Ginger does accept Lee’s help on a case. One of her clients has gone MIA from the state penitentiary – but how can a man go missing in prison? The situation turns out to have all of Lee’s favorite ingredients: power, corruption and malfeasance among the wealthy elite. It’s a perfect next story for The Heartland Press, where Marty (Keith David) is now Managing Editor, much to Lee’s chagrin. Bumbling his way through the investigation with Ginger, Lee reluctantly enlists the assistance of Johnny (Rafael Casal), a jujitsu-trained dentist with a heart of gold, who is also new husband to Lee’s ex Samantha (Kaniehtiio Horn), and co-parent to Lee’s teenage daughter Francis (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), who longs for more time with her ever-busy father. Lee loves Francis more than anything in the world, but the urgency of this new case pulls him away from her more often than either of them would like. Things on the homefront get even more complicated when Lee’s estranged grifter father, Lee Raybon Senior (Jones), unexpectedly arrives in town – especially awkward since Lee has always told Francis that her grandfather was dead.
Scavengers Reign will finally get a run on adult swim’s Toonami block starting September 5. The series, which premiered on HBO Max in 2023, got a second window on Netflix, and many fans were hoping it would get a run on the late night action block. The incredible series is well worth a watch.
Jesse Lee Soffer has joined crime drama project Strike Force. The CBS project currently in development follows a battle-tested DEA agent (Soffer) who returns home to Kansas City to lead a multi-agency strike force targeting the violent criminals now trying to exploit America’s heartland.
Netflix is developing a spinoff series of The Lincoln Lawyer. The project would star Cobie Smulders who joined the previous season of the legal drama series. The Lincoln Lawyer will be ending with its upcoming fifth season.
Neal Huff, Gaby Hoffmann, and Sky Yang will star alongside Jeremy Strong, Andrea Riseborough and Barry Pepper in The Best of Us, (formerly titled 9/12) the upcoming six-episode limited series for Paramount+. The series tells the story of the David vs. Goliath fight that exposed corruption and won justice for 9/11’s ailing heroes. It dramatizes a landmark case that reshaped the fight for accountability: a relentless legal war that stretched nearly a decade to secure almost $1 billion in compensation for first responders who fell gravely ill in the wake of 9/11.
The first two episodes of The Traitors: New Blood will debut September 17 in a special two-hour extended premiere on NBC. Set at a castle deep in the Scottish Highlands, this nail-biting psychological adventure sees contestants work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000. Hidden among the Faithful are the Traitors, who murder the Faithful one-by-one under the cover of darkness as the Faithful race to uncover them from the game. At the end of the game, if the remaining Faithful banish every Traitor, they share the prize fund; if even one Traitor survives to the end, the Traitors take it all.
DC TV projects Waller and Paradise Lost are no longer in development. The news comes after fellow DC project Booster Gold was also announced to no longer be in development. Waller was to follow Viola Davis’ character from the films. Paradise Lost was to be a Wonder Woman prequel set on Themyscira.
Saturday Night Live UK returns September 12 on Sky in the UK. The series streams on Peacock in the US. The first six brand-new episodes will bring a fresh season of unpredictable, must-watch Saturday night television, with additional shows planned in early 2027. Broadcast live each week, the series will once again welcome a different celebrity host and musical guest for every episode, alongside topical sketches, live music performances and a British take on the iconic Weekend Update segment. Returning for the new series are all 11 members of the inaugural cast: Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.
A Tale of Two Cities premieres September 6 on MGM+. London, 1782. Tensions run high in the war between France and Britain. A young woman, Lucie Manette, (Mirren Mack) has her life upended when she receives a message from Paris – her father, assumed dead for almost 20 years, may be alive. The messenger – idealistic French emigré, Charles Darnay (François Civil) – is arrested and charged with treason. Lucie enlists the help of a brilliant but erratic young lawyer, Sydney Carton (Kit Harington), to free Darnay in the hope he will lead her to Paris to track down her father. Lucie’s collision with Darnay and Carton unleashes a powerful and complex love triangle. Both men fight to be worthy of her love and Lucie is torn over which one to choose. Yet neither man – physically so alike, spiritually poles apart – can escape the other. Instead, they find themselves bound together in life and death, through triumphs, tragedies, marriage, and murder.
The Perfect Lie premieres September 10 on Netflix. When Karen moves to Bergen with her family, they are warmly welcomed into the Dining Club, a seductive group of friends who thoroughly enjoy an extravagant and debauched life. The Detour with David Chang premieres September 20 on CNN. This season, Chang discovers why Las Vegas may be America’s most exciting food city with filmmaker Cord Jefferson; explores the multicultural flavors of South Florida with comedian Eric André; tracks a new generation of Texas barbecue alongside comedian and actress Cristela Alonzo; revisits Pennsylvania’s food traditions with actress Gillian Jacobs; makes a pilgrimage across Tennessee with chef and owner of Milk Bar Christina Tosi to the legendary Benton’s smokehouse; and explores Sonoma’s wineries, oyster farms and artisan producers with his creative partner Chris Ying.
Season five of Stillwater premieres August 21 on Apple TV. Based on the bestselling Scholastic “Zen” book series by Jon J Muth, the series follows a wise panda who teaches three young siblings about the world and each other. The series centers on siblings Karl (Judah Mackey), Addy (Eva Ariel Binder) and Michael (Tucker Chandler), who encounter everyday challenges – big and small – which sometimes feel insurmountable. Fortunately for the three siblings, they have Stillwater (James Sie), a wise panda, as their next-door neighbor. Through his example, stories and gentle humor, Stillwater teaches the children the concept of mindfulness while offering them a deeper understanding of their feelings and tools to help them face their own day-to-day challenges.
